Help - Hallway, Stairs and Landing Ideas
Comments (29)If you like sage green, use sage green! The hall looks a little dark in places and all the wisdom from designers is that if it is dark, it is dark and no amount of bright colours will change it; they will look less bright in the dark - which equals dark. Go with it and use your favourite green or an even darker shade. Green is about to be very big; be ahead of the curve! It's also really hard to imagine it not being dark but as soon as you have some furniture in there, and some pictures or other things on the walls, it will look interesting and have a bit of a visual lift. Put up a couple of mirrors, too, to reflect the light which will make it seem lighter - you could have one on the right of the stairs so it reflects a little from the window and one on the wall in the main section near the front door. Have a bit of fun with it. It's where everyone arrives - cosy is very welcoming all year round....See MoreHELP PLEASE!! Landing, stairs, hallway decorating ideas
Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process...See MoreDark hall, stairs and landing paint ideas
Comments (3)When you enter the house are the stairs immediately in front of you? Where do the doors either side lead to? I have stairs directly in front of the front door (no hall) and a living room on the right. My staircase gets most of the light from the glazed front door and the glazed living room door. Changing to glazed doors can really help with lighting. Sorry, I haven’t made any suggestions for colour! I’d personally just paint it in a brilliant white first and then decide on a colour later on....See Moreideas how to dress landing windows
Comments (2)I agree: these windows look good as they are! If there are no privacy issues, the only other factor that may be worth considering is how the windows look from outside. So, for example, it there a similar rectangular window in the room to the left, which you may wish to dress similarly to maintain the symmetry from the outside?...See MoreBloc Blinds
