Need help with long wall to decorate

I need help with ideas to decorate this big wall. It is 5.2 metres (17 feet) long. I'm not sure if I should hang more than one decoration and if so, how do I choose what to hang. Any ideas would assist.

I agree, wallpapers are great for that purpose. But don't decorate the whole wall, just a part of if. For example you could put a three-stripe wide wallpaper decoration behind the sofa. Print out the photograph and expeiment with different colours.
You like magenta as it appears on some of the pilows It would be a good idea to use that colour on the walls.
Or another possibility is to use a light wallpaper and hang a picture in the middle of it with darker colours.

Thanks. Am I right in saying you have 2 armchairs and a sofa (They're nice btw!) as I think you've rearranged the furniture? If so. Maybe 2 options but this room as big as it is seems so tricky! Mount the tv on the wall to the right of the fireplace with a console table underneath with decorative bits to disguise the tv. Add another console on the other side of the fire and hang a piece of art same size as tv. Then the sofa on the back wall by the door and the armchair in the small bay with the coffee table In the middle (and have remaining chair in front of non-bay window with a rug and small table). OR how you have it in pic 1 with the chair at rightangles to the fire but pulled a couple of feet closer to the door. The sofa also looks as if it needs to go a few ft closer to the small bay or is opposite the fire? I would then have a large console or cabinet on the back wall with a new chair in the corner. I think it maybe looks a bit odd at the moment as it's the only furniture you have in here. Once you've got pieces in on the unfurnished space etc it will look fine. Do use rugs to incorporate the space too.

Depending on how much work you wanted to do and how much you've got in your budget there are lots of options available to you. It looks like you've got a great ceiling height so you've got lots of wall space to play about with. I'd pick a feature wallpaper with some gold in it and probably a pale, cream coloured background. This will work with your flooring and with the sofas you brought from your previous property and it'll keep the room bright. Because you've got so much wall space you could also create a gorgeous gallery wall. It doesn't have to be expensive if you use postcards, personal photos and posters etc. If you go for all black and white pictures you can play around with different styles and colours of frames but if you have some colourful, mixed images I'd keep to black or white frames and have some consistency that way. These are just guidelines for quite a curated look but if your tastes are a little more eclectic then go wild! If you've got room in your budget you could also add more interest and textures through a large floor rug, cushions, and curtains. Choose shades that complement or clash with your chosen wallpaper. KL, thank you - the red does work with the brown, see picture of what the previous owners had - but the walls in reality are a much darker and 'cackier' colour than the picture suggests. Forzaitalia (love the name, love Italy even more!) You are dead right about the brown carpet sapping the light! We plan on putting a fairly light grey carpet in eventually. The room is quite dark anyway as it only has a small window at one end, and we leave the en-suite door open to get light into the other end. Funnily enough, we are already using the 'coastal' theme bedding that we bought (see pics) The other duvet cover is the same as the curtains. I love the rugs in your first photo, especially the blue one, so may well look for something similar - hadn't thought of lightening the carpet up with a couple of rugs, just need to be careful I don't fall over them when I'm staggering to the loo in the middle of the night! Also LOVE the picture on the wall, have been looking for something like that for ages. Actually, you've clarified things a bit for me - I think I might just go ahead and use a warm cream on the walls, try and get a couple of cream and blue rugs and then at least we can still use the bedding I spent a fortune on! At least it will look presentable for a while until we can afford the huge expanse of carpet! Once again, thanks for the help.

And you definitely should use more types of lighting. You have wonderful tables to put some lamps on.

How about a very long photograph. Your look seems fairly minimal so something that needs scale to compete with your long credenza on the other side. Plus another long horizontal line will add to the drama.
