Lovely bedroom, but don´t know what to do with it. Please help.
Comments (23)HI MARINA, I love your bedroom- great high ceilings. Your furniture is also nice. I would follow the lead from the furniture keeping all furniture white. I love tropical coastal style. I would put up a white ceiling fan and ikea sell some white nets that let in loads of light and give privacy. I would decorate the walls in an off white with a hint of pink in it for warmth and to bring out the tones in your beautiful floor. I would collect local art for the walls. I would go to town on the bedding and cushions for the bed. I would mix your favourite colours- turquoise, teal, with green and coral. Making the room have a tropical coastal beach hotel vibe. I would feel like I was on holiday every day and never want to leave. Once you've surrounded yourself with personal things like photo frames of loved ones, plants/ flowers etc, you will feel right at home and settled. I've loved decorating for years, and tried lots of colours on walls but recently I've returned to off whites as they are so flexible and you can change the look with coloured accessories regular. "2 good books to read are Greg Natale - 'A tailored interior'- He's great, and tells you trade secrets to give your home the wow factor an be your own interior designer. Also anything by Barclay Butera - he's the best for coastal/beach styles. Wishing you lots of fun....See MoreWhen did bedrooms get so boring
Comments (7)I think you need the architectural features to pull something like this off otherwise in a basic box shape room it can look a bit o.t.t. (see pics, although I do think the grass rug is fun:)). But just having a nod to it in art, a few accessories, fancy mirror or light fitting or maybe an item of furniture and you can get the theme but not so overwhelming. So I’ve got some tree silhouette bedside lights which I love and a bargain french style chair from gumtree, then kind of veered off a bit and started with a winter beach type colour scheme (see my inspo pic). Still work in progress but happy with it and it’s lovely and tranquil for a bedroom....See MoreTo carpet or to laminate and can I also ask you about headboards?!
Comments (19)Thank you so much for all your comments, really kind of you. Read Interiors will take your advice and get a wall mounted headboard, will start calling upholsterers tomorrow to get prices. Daisy, yes I do have a vax from the last house and the newer models are much better than the previous ones in terms of drying times. Vicki thanks for the name of the stretch valance as I couldn't find them on Google apart from on House of Fraser but they have limited colours and were pretty pricey at £100 or so! Angm, funnily enough I had this conversation with the carpet man as when I lifted the 50 year old carpet I noticed there was paper down and he explained that was why. He said it was also a good idea to tape any joins in underlay as well as the carpet but said a lot of fitters don't do this. Forzaitalia and Sam appreciate the insights and very interesting given your experiences Corbridge Interior design interesting point re rug and sizing I am still torn!!!! But I am probably moving towards carpets. I think the pics make the floor look better than it is! Noise wouldn't be a problem as we are in a bungalow, which is why I am concerned about the kids walking into their rooms on carpet having forgotten to take their shoes off! If it was upstairs I would definitely go with carpet! Aargh decisions, decisions!...See MoreHow did you go about choosing a colour scheme?
Comments (4)I think it needn’t be that difficult. Get a colour chart from be manufacturer- I like Farrow and Ball. Then choose 3 or 4 neutrals. Consider if you want yellow, green, grey, blue or red undertones and then stick to the decision. For instance I like a grey undertone as I feel it is more contemporary and would consider All White, Strong White and Cornforth White. Then choose a stronger colour you like- I like pigeon. Then choose a deep colour - I like Downpipe. In my opinion you then have a palate to decorate with- use these colours again and again an different rooms in different quantities- so I might paint walls Cornforth White, ceilings Strong White and woodwork and coving in All White. In the next room I might use pigeon on the wall or keep the neural scheme but paint a feature wall in Downpipe. If there are any attic bedrooms then I would keep to the All White woodwork and then paint the walls and ceiling with All White or Strong white. If the bathroom is mainly tiles I might paint the walls Downpipe as a strong colour helps make a small space look more sophisticated when used with restraint. But colour is also subjective so you must choose something you like. I do however feel that if you repeat a colour again and again in a house you get a feeling of continuity, the property feels bigger, decorating is easier and in fairness the light affects it from one room to the next so rarely looks exactly the same...See Morejrkilty
