Asymmetrical Ugly Fireplace - Help Anyone got any ideas?!
Comments (4)I think your fireplace is lovely and I love the warm honey tone of the bricks. Many fireplaces aren’t symmetrical, mine isn’t. I think it would be sacrilege to cover it up. Such a lovely cosy room. If you really hate it then you could remove the bricks and plaster the wall, or remove the bricks and put in a wooden fire surround and paint that. I like Ribena‘s idea - candles or even electrical lighting can create warmth, or maybe an electric faux log burner,....See MoreHelp with my ugly house
Comments (15)You could try to paint the pvc, with the proper primer, but don't expect much from it. Temporary make-over. We live in a small white 1950 home (Netherlands) and have replaced most of our windows over the years, from wood to pvc (with woodgrain, white indoors, warm grey out). Better insulation (sound and cold), less to paint, but immense cost. Do you have the budget to change them now or does your budget limit you to rendering and paintjobs? Same for the porch redo, changing the location of the front door and/or roof shape. Rain in Snowdonia comes plenty, so I'd adress the driveway first. I'd suggest an infiltration pit* a few meters away from the house, with drains alongside the garage and house. Enlarge the 'patio' and steps and add gravel along the front, so water can sink into the ground quicker. *) We've made one by drilling 30mm holes in a large pvc rain barrel, burrying it upside down with plenty of gravel and sand around it and connecting our gutters and regular rain barrel overflow to it, since we have no sewage in the back of the house. You could add a pump to the pit for summer lawn sprays, but we decided not to....See MoreHELP- I’ve made my new bathroom look dated. what can I do?
Comments (60)If space is your priority, perhaps the second toilet would be better? What brand is it, btw? I will eventually be redoing a bathroom (had planned to do it this year, but gas price rises have made me decide to install a wood burner instead). Really like the shape of this second toilet and it looks like it would be so easy to clean....See Moreugly not lovely house
Comments (31)Just stumbled upon this very old thread. I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling unsure about the house you've just put an offer on. I can imagine it must be difficult to reconcile your dream home with the reality of this property. It's understandable to have certain expectations and desires when it comes to buying a house, but sometimes we have to compromise on certain things. It's important to weigh the pros and cons and decide what's most important to you in the long run. If you're still unsure, it might be helpful to seek out some professional advice. The Decosta Group could help you assess the potential value of the property and whether it's a good investment in the long term. Ultimately, only you and your partner can decide whether this is the right home for you. Hope this still helps....See Morejuniperjo
