i need advice on dining room

I have just painted beamed ceiling all white, old dresser and table light blue, replaced table with 5ft round, I have old Jacobean ornate chairs with blue seats, will they go in this room?

Hi Mariam, Good luck with your exciting project! I believe a good starting point is to have some photos (they can be from Houzz) of spaces that you like. I created one for you using Ideabooks as a starting point. The images you select do not even need to be kitchens! They just need to be images that you find inspiring. The words "contemporary" and "neutral" are so subjective in the world of design. Clarifying this will help us to guide you better in terms of assisting you to come up with a design scheme you'll be happy with. Given your views & the colors of your view, I believe you should go with a bright & airy approach as opposed to dark & moody. I hope my ideabook is of some help!

I would raise the curtain poles up and make more of the windows. I would suggest a round dining table, extendable as mentioned. I think as it is a new build you probably need to keep to modern with an eclectic twist. Changing the flooring doesn't need to be over expensive but would make the room feel bigger and would give you more flexibility. I would use warm neutrals on the walls and use colour in your soft furnishings, rug and accessories. A few fab pieces of art with colour would look great. As mentioned above you could easily change the point for the TV. Use good quality wood floating shelves and you can have a space at the back pre-cut on order for the wires to go down and hide wiring and access by a cable tidy in a neautral colour for the walls. This will take away furniture on the floor taking up space for the TV and digital box, Xbox etc. Making the room feel bigger and this TV was on special bracket so you can bring the TV out and re-position or tilt up and down. Picture from past project including floating shelves and cable tidy. These shelves are in walnut with oak stripes on the front but there are many different woods you could choose from.

Hi andykate1, With darker rooms it is best to stick to a light colour palette that will make the room feel more expansive and open. Opting for a fresh neutral tone such as ‘Rocksalt’ will give the room an uplifted feel and make any dark room feel airy and balanced. ‘Rocksalt’ is a modern mid-tone that fits in between grey and white- not as stark as bright white and not as deep as grey. Why not create a beautiful feature of the main wall within the room? ‘Sun Dust 2’ is a lovely warm tone of golden yellow and is sure to bring in personality to the space and help the whole room feel ‘more together’. This can also be a colour to bring through in accessories and dressing the room. Try also using a co-ordinating colour with your accessories that will finish the scheme such as a rich navy. I’m bad at colour but this was my take 😊 I also lowered and moved the tv left a little, I would try the coffee table the other way round too. where were your chairs from and will see if I can try and photoshop them to visualise them in situ if you want?
