Bedroom - finishing touches

Hi, this is my daughter's bedroom that I feel is lacking something. We added soft pink as an accent colour but I'm not happy with this. The window is normally dressed with a roman blind in the same design as the wallpaper. The wardrobes are due to be hand-painted but I cannot make my mind up in the colour. I would appreciated your ideas. Thanks

Hi there - lovely room!

You could paint the mirror a taupey colour to match the bedspread and desk seat pouf, and break up the block of colour the desk, mirror and wardrobe currently form, or paint the wardrobe in a taupe colour instead. Or paint the walls taupe and have the wardrobe in brilliant white. I'd paint the window frame white too. Maybe hang a print, some artwork or several small photographs in black frames above the bed? Or along the wall to the right of the bed? The photos would definitely add a personal touch to the room. Some pictures for ideas/inspiration:

I think that you are correct saying it needs breaking up. The walls are wallpapered in a soft but pretty pattern so can't be painted, but I will paint the wardrobes & add the artwork.
We haven't felt encouraged to finish the room as we weren't happy with it.

Hello again all and sorry for the delay! i have now got a throw and started to extend my gallery over the corner. I grabbed an old chair and rug that were kicking about in my parents' garage and put them in the corner to give me some idea of what i want. actually, i kinda like the beat-up chair but i don't think the rug looks right. is it too small? Now i have the reddish throw (LOVE it... from the Avoca shop in Belfast - amazing place, if you are ever in Belfast do go!!) I am actually considering replacing my blind because i prefer red tones to the turquoise. Just not sure what I would get instead? Still need a fab lamp and more cushions but wisdom says wait for the January sales! I still think I need something more eyecatching on my vanity too... Considering a map above my bed but I don't know if it would compete with the gallery wall too much? have to say i do love the "hello" sign!

Thank you everyone for your comments. I hadn't thought of the space between the bedside units and the wall, but you're all absolutely right - it does seem a bit of an awkwardly spacious gap.. and most likely just going to end up hogging clutter too! I like the idea of the artwork behind each (taller!) lamp, so I am going to go and hunt some nice ones down now as I think that would definitely look great with the bigger headboard. Thank you all!

Hi Katy. Pretty room. I agree with Isidora above. Some nice prints or framed photos of your daughter and her friends would break the wall space in the room. It would add colour and add personality to the room. The bedroom furniture is lovely and is neutral, so if you're apprehensive about painting it, why not try some new knobs for the lockers and wardrobes instead. This can add some character without the hassle of painting. There are a few companies that do a great selection of knobs. Here is a link for one that I have used before. Best of luck. I think a burst of strong colour -throw, cushions and lamp shades in hot pink-similar to the flowers on the window ledge-would be perfect. Or cobalt blue?

What age is your daughter? I think you have provided the basics beautifully and now it remains for her to add things to reflect her personality. (Sadly, that may well be teenage slob, angst ridden student or any one of a number of less than desirable personas she may adopt over the years, but her room is where she needs to have freedom to express it.)

My daughter is 19 years old. I think you are right but between us we have just lost the impetus to finish the room.

I have received lots of helpful comments now so I will get on with the finishing touches.

What a lovely room. It just looks like it needs dressing - artwork, maybe a pink throw to blend with the lovely cushions, some trinkets. I really like the wardrobes, nice classic style and a good neutral colour. It will be a rather big job to paint them and may drive you round the bend! I can see a trio of botanical prints above the bed for a start. You've got some fab ideas here, so I wish you lots of luck.
