Bed for a teenage boy

Hello
I'm looking for a suitable alternative to the ikea Hemnes daybed.
My son is having his bedroom updated as a birthday present and I am desperate for ideas for a comfy bed which will last a good few years.
He has a captain's bed with a trundle underneath for an occasional sleepover at the moment. We already have TWO Ikea Daybeds in the house (at a smaller sister's bed and as a guest bed in the spare bedroom/playroom.
The problem is that my son is about to become a teenager so I don't want his updated room looking too childish. It's a dark and long room with one small window, so I couldn't fit a proper, say, double bed there.
I would be really grateful for ideas on an appropriate bed to fit along a wall in a narrow bedroom (which also has a wardrobe and a big writing table).

This beds from dwell, has 3 drawers and an extra bed at the bottom, I got my son this bed but it has the 6 drawers and no extra bed. The drawers are the depth of the bed so hold quite a lot of things. The bed retails at £1000 but every few months it comes back round in the same at £499 so if you can wait then you can get a good bargain, just keep checking their webpage as the sale stock changes on Tuesdays.

The plan is to buy a bigger wardrobe and place it where the existing bed is at the moment. The new bed will replace the trundle which provides an occasional place to sit at the moment.

The advantage of the hemnes day bed is it can convert to a double so could last until adulthood in theory. Would you/he consider a midsleeper? There are loads on Wayfair (with good reviews). Personally I would consider bed where you plan to put wardrobes flanked with floor to ceiling wardrobe each side. The desk could be positioned to left of widows to gain maximum daylight. Otherwise you are facing a wall when at the desk.

I would look at getting a double/small double for him. Are there other layouts where it would fit? You can still get doubles with storage underneath

Would the wardrobe fit at the foot of the bed if you place the bed along the long wall? You could then have a desk on the short wall, similar to the enclosed photo.

Kerry Donnelly, I love the Dwell bed. Cannot stop dwelling over that website. Things there are so modern and have beautiful clean lines.
I am not in a rush and will keep an eye for a sale.

No probs,,, it will come on at £749 then it will come on again at £499. I've managed to get everything I've needed for half price, has took a bit of time but everything just rotates on the half price sale. Also, have a look and see if there's a dwell near you as they offer lots of ex display in the store, I got a side unit for a quarter of the price and not a mark on it. AND,,, some of the things you see on dwell are by kare design, amazon and Wayfair both stock kare design at a price decreases from dwells prices, like their artwork was £399 and I got it for £75 from Wayfair, slightly smaller but only £79. Happy shopping.

That should have said another art price at £249 on dwell for £79 on amazon,,, it comes directly from kare design, same packaging as you get it from dwell.

Yes, there is a store in my town. I'm already planning to go over there this week.
Also will check Amazon - its so much easier to shop there.
After dwelling on single beds for a while, I think I prefer notch beds after all. They are simple and beautiful.

Well good luck, it's really nice in my sons room, we have the doubles in my girls room and they are great, we got the drawers to match on the half price too so look at them when you go to store.

Did you see the bed is down to £399? it's in the stone colour though.

I also seen the white one has been increased from £1000 to £1300 but reduced to £1000 today, maybe it will fall to the £650 at later date.
