full length mirror lighting

I have a full length mirror on the wall in a narrow corridor and cannot find the best/ most flattering way to light it.

We put surround lighting around a mirror we did in the attached bathroom. Many of our clients ask for this as it keeps the look very sleek and streamlined.

Hello

i would consider sconces either side of the mirror. Overhead lighting tends to be quite unflattering. Alternatively is there room for a console table where you could place a table lamp?

You could put in stained glass of some type or perhaps a traditional etched glass or sandblasted design . The benefit of stained glass is it that it adds colour to the inside and lights up like a lantern when it is dark. You can still have a panel you can see through if you wanted. I would recommend getting both the window and the doorway done to complement one another, as that would be really lovely from both the inside and the outside. Your entrance seems fairly exposed as it is, so another alternative would be to fit a secondary door internally to your hallway with an obscure glass treatment that would give you privacy. Veronica

Hi, I am installing recessed lights in my bedroom and wondering whether it is a good idea to install one in front of a full-length mirror. I have found information on vanity mirrors but not on regular mirrors outside bathrooms. Would it cast a shadow? This mirror is off the closet, so we use it everyday to get ready. Thanks!

Whilst it is commendable to be looking at architectural solutions to your problem. I feel a lot of these issues could be remedied through thoughtful garden design and a complimentary landscape scheme. Whether you are looking from the property itself or from the approach to the property, there are many ways that these views can be framed or softened by the use of specimen trees. I would be interested to see a more comprehensive plan / visual so I could advise you further.

I'd try Ikea Besta units as having a bespoke set of units made by a carpenter will likely be out of budget. There are so many combo's you're bound to find something to suit. Just watch out for the different depths of the units as they do differ. As rachelmidlands says you can do allsorts with ikea stuff, here's a link to the 'bookcases' section, so much to choose from, you just need to work out your widths and what may work. Ikea Bookcases. You can also use the BESTA planner on their website, a really useful tool. I put a lot of flat pack together for people. Ikea put the times that it will take ( allegedly ) for the item to be made by either one or two people.( Unfortunately, that time isn't quoted on their website, only on the boxes. ). They also do not quote for actually securing taller items to walls, which is often very necessary. So that is an added cost. If you are employing someone to make all the flat pack up for you, just remember that this will be an added cost on top of the cost of the item. For instance a double wardrobe takes 2-3 hours depending on complexity, ( a wardrobe is a 2 man job ), so that would be around £ 75 - £105 plus. This will not include securing anything to a wall or supplier the sundries to do it with. This Besta layout, 4m wide roughly with a gap for your piano, shelves and drawers comes in at £890
