wall mounted flat electric heating panels

I'm renovating a ruined farmhouse in france in a combination of traditional and modern styles using materials that blend wood, exposed stone and metal.

All heating on the ground floor will be located underfloor and I'd like recommendations for modern electric panel radiators to use for first floor heating

have a look at air conditioning unit they also come with heating and cooling and they are inverted system built in

Ffion Dimplex seem to have quite a good electric radiator range - have a look at this webpage with soem sleek black ones : http://www.dimplex.co.uk/products/domestic_heating/installed_heating/panel_heaters/glass_fronted_xx_range/index.htm If you're not in the flat during the day they will probably be your most cost effective option. However, if the flat is in occupation you should really consider other options for heating such as a small heat pump which would although more expensive to install is less expensive to run - heat pumps work on the basis of energy conversion which means that generally you get some 3kw output whilst paying for only 1kw. Hi Gabby, Well after a bit of research and speaking to my electrician re the infra red panels, it was decided to give them a miss. However, that then meant that we had not planned for UF heating so we ended up having to have high output rads on what few walls we had left! Bit of a pain really. We have pipes going to the island if we ever want plinth heaters (although they are a bit noisy as operate using fans - even for the plumbed in ones!) to give us more heat in the middle of the room. To be honest, the rooms are quite warm during the winter days when the sun is out so we only have to worry about evenings and cold winter where our log burner will be on anyway. If we could go back, we would have had wet UF heating put in the new extension. Wouldn’t bother with electric as too expensive and cheaper just to have rads put in

I think your choice depends on who you are renovating it for. If you are reselling or renting consider the return on investment- if it is a high priced area a higher priced solution might pay for its self. In my humble opinion an electric combi boiler is the best option- buyers like radiators and the green credentials of an electric combi. An electric combi will cost about 40 % more to run (than gas) but will probably help the saleability more than storage heaters. If it were my own home and I had stripped out everything I might be tempted to consider the combi to a wet underfloor heating system- although more expensive to install it should be cheaper to run and adds another layer of sound insulation to floors which can help reduce noise in flats. Underfloor heating is also supposed to be better if you have a high ceiling and no radiators means more wall space.

I’ve had wall panels in a shower (Spa-board type) they lasted a long time but I didn’t buy the same again when I installed a walk in shower. They don’t look as attractive in a large enclosure. They lost their shine very quickly. Like tiles they get soap drying on and need cleaning and I find that tiles are easier to clean than being ‘careful’ when cleaning the boards and tiles come back to ‘new’ better. Also they have the ‘grout’ problem along each join and seal at the bottom. I have large tiles to minimise grouting. I spray Dettol mould n mildew on the sealer when it looks as if it’s starting to discolour and just leave it on, it washes off next shower. Sooo lazy! I use Ciff for the rest and it’s all good. The grouting is clean and it’s been done 4 years and 3 showers a day! We have a vanity unit which looks lovely but it has a resin type integrated sink, which as above shows the soap quickly, however it is easier to clean a sink. I’d rather have ceramic. The drawers are fab, everything is easy to see and access. It was apparent it wasn’t going to be safe wall mounted when kids started to use it so I had to have two support legs at the front, luckily they are chrome and not very noticeable.
