Comments (44)HiTino Felly, Marie Here. Your off to a great start - but you've made a common mistake in that you've found your inspiration for your colour palette, but your not committing to it. You need to bring the greens and blues up onto the walls and onto the floor - commit to it. You could: - add a great throw rug underneath the bed, - add big table lamp beside the bed - or better yet, a wall sconce, - drapery isn't really the best choice for this bedding - I would have brought in a bold graphic print here, in either the blue or the green - artwork can stay neutral - even do a collection of mixed metals in chrome, gold, and have fun with that - if you add too much in the blue and green it becomes boring and un-special. Choose your accessories carefully, I'd change out your drapery - go with something bolder, I'd also get a larger night stand so you could put a proper table lamp there. Good Luck!...See MoreBedroom alcove
Comments (18)I would remove the scooped headboard that accentuates the alcove. I certainly wouldn't 'hang' a mirror but opt for clean lines. Instead of a headboard I would use lateral tongue & groove up to the light switches above the bed up to the alcove & as far as the end of the bedside cabinets to give the bed a ships cabin feel. A good joiner could also add bedside cupboards to the "headboard" to continue the ships cabin feel. I would continue the lateral tongue & groove into the alcove, all over, which would be higher than the T&G above the bed but keeps it cohesive & makes a real integrated feature of the alcove. I think lateral T&G keeps it contemporary & not seaside twee. I would T&G the whole bed area in this way & keep the rest of the room pretty simple. If you wanted a mirror I would have a glazier cut a porthole mirror in the centre of the alcove surrounded by the tongue & groove. All the T&G in the whole bed area should be painted in the same colour i think so that the alcove becomes part of the whole. It will be a lovely individual feature but for success the alcove has to be integrated , i feel. A few books & a few natural pieces would look great on the bottom ledge of the alcove & would be useful too. You are so lucky to already have bed side lights & I would just change the fittings to a contemporary cabin style light on either side. There are lots around & are usually metal I think....See MoreWhat do you think is best use this bedroom space?
Comments (29)So... managed to find time to discuss it late last night, and we definitely like the idea of being able to make bed 3 larger. I've taken it slightly further in some ways but less in others to try and minimise the cost hopefully as bf thinks that regardless of what we do, it'll end up being prohibitively expensive to re-organise upstairs. This plan would : Keep doorways off the landing to bed 2/3 the same as they are currently (I appreciate the benefits of moving them in terms of not having it right at the top of the stairs, however there's still room for a stair gate at the top of the stairs (should we ever need one), and has never been a problem for us since we've been here regardless of who's stayed (almost 6 years). Removing your study area - we have a separate office/mancave downstairs, and I always work at the dining table even when I had an office space if doing work at home, allowing us to have a bigger family bathroom (maybe a pocket door) with hopefully room for a bath and walk in shower? (as actually the 2 bathrooms we'd be joining are quite compact!) Still quite a small landing area, which I appreciate is useful for general circulation space, but we'd be reluctant to cut into bed 3 more than we have to, and there'd be just enough room I think to have a small window which would hopefully make it feel more airy at least. FYI the pink line I've added is where we get full height ceilings back, as the front half of bed 2/3 mostly have sloped ceilings, except for where the dormers are, but they drop to about waist height at the front. The back wall of the ensuite would be the current back wall of the ensuite again to help reduce costs... Ideally I'd have preferred to creep it forward an extra 10-20cm to give that room to bed 3, however I think for such a small distance it's probably not worth having to knock down, and build another wall. What do people think? ? Obviously would still need to ask builders re cost etc and bf thinks I'm getting hopes up and it'll cost too much... (Anyone got any rough thoughts how much it might be?) but I did point out we could fit most of the bathroom stuff at a later date....See MoreWhat bedroom theme do your kids have & what features work best?
Comments (5)thankyou. im really pleased with how window seat turned out, i'll be up there with a book and coffee on my day off. :-) Carpet is going to be same throughout all house keep cost down. thick and grey/ silver. when budget gets replenished she wants a bunk bed with desk and seat bed underneath for friends. personally I don't think she will want a bunk bed for long. Getting her to keep room tidy is going to be a nightmare. Paper.......everywhere. notes, drawings etc etc....See MorePorter Edun
