Kitchen renovation

Small kitchen to be renovated. I will keep the white floor because it's in good condition. Need some advice for cabinets, counter top and backsplash. Thinking of light grey cabinets, caramel/beige countertop and stone backsplash - debating on stainless steel or slate appliances. Open to new ideas.

I personally wouldn't go dark in the kitchen ,go with a light grey ,look at this colour and decide.

Light gray cabinets seem like they would work with the floor. I would be cautious of caramel/beige countertops which could be too warm. A quartz with some gray veining might be better. Go with stainless appliances which are more neutral and not too dark.

My kitchen refit starts 3 weeks today but won't be finished until next year when I have decided on the splash backs. This has been a project 2 years in the making due to several builders agreeing to do the work only to never hear from them again & also some very poor service from kitchen shops. Finally I have a builder on board who will move a doorway to accommodate the new position for my fridge freezer and fit a Second Nature kitchen in elm that is to replace an old cream shaker one. Most of the appliances are staying as they are newish but for the first time I will have a dishwasher, a wall mounted oven so I can see what is cooking & a Franke under mounted corner sink which was a brand new ebay bargain. I am switching from gas to a white induction hob that will hopefully fit seamlessly into white quartz countertops. I am so excited, all this in a 2.6m x 2.8m kitchen. I have also asked the countertop peeps to smooth off an additional piece of quartz to fit the sink aperture so I can use that as additional work space. I am boring my boyfriend with endlessly searching for the best deals on things and trying my luck haggling which is not usually like me but lots of fun! Something along these lines could work - and give you better room between range and island and allow the fridge freezer to be opened fully ... extra cabinets in the dining room provide additional storage if required... I’ve added images into a shared folder with public access for you. Hope it helps ! It might not be feasible to reuse all the doors but a mix and match of styles could work in different zones. I'd go for sink and cooker along wall C (if there is enough space not to cause a safety issue), extractor hood and draining type plate shelves above. Island coming out from wall D just after the window, 1200 wide, 900 deep, with washer and storage on window side and high stools facing wall C ( looking out window too). Wall A looks to be suitable for tall fridge freezer with tall 300mm pantry either side. Wall B could have narrow shelves for crockery, plants, books etc. Good luck with it.

There are so many kitchen providers out there that I think it’s worth shopping around a bit more. My kitchen is 12 years old and from Wrens. They supplied everything but I had my own fitter. It’s okay and has stood the test of time. Most of the Wren’s problems are to do with poor fitting. They have flashy showrooms which tempt people. I have heard DIY Kitchens are supposed to be really good and lots of Hoyzzers use them. Why not try some independent kitchen fitters who cater for all budgets. Worth a try.

If you're going with white and gray stay away from warmer beige countertops. They won't look right together. You can get a nice white stone with some gray and goldish streaks through it if you want some warmth.

I agree not sure how a carmel counter would work with the gray at all and IMO the cabinets would be better painted white with all new stainless appliances I think the slate is too dark for the space. It would be good to see the whole kitchen if possible. Right now there are things i would change before spending huge money , but maye not possible in the space.

I agree with the comments regarding beige tone countertops. I suggest light gray for your cabinetry as well. If you are keeping the white tile, then gray cabinets will help set them apart from the floor. A white quartz with grey veining or if you prefer actual stone, then Super White granite could work as well. Although the selection of the right Super White slab would be important if you are installing gray cabinets. Just don't install Carrara marble given this is a kitchen and it will be difficult to maintain. Plain white subway (3" x 6") backsplash or similar rectangular shaped ceramic with light gray grout would look nice as well. Instead of installing the tile in a horizontal brickset pattern, change the direction to vertical or a herringbone pattern if you are looking to do something different. Only do a herringbone pattern if your countertop has more subtle veining so it does not compete. (Although I am not sure how much backsplash you have given the one photo you displayed, so herringbone pattern might not work in your space.) Keep in mind that the backsplash is a nice way to incorporate some color and interest as this material is easier to replace than your countertop material down the road. (Again, only if you have a simple patterned countertop.) Change your appliances to stainless steel, preferably select a slide-in range. I would also like to see the dishwasher relocated so you don't have two appliances next to each other, but I am not aware of your space limitations. I would also suggest an undermount cast iron sink in white to break up all of the gray, reduce the amount of stainless in the space and tie in the white floor. You can select gold toned (not polished brass from the 80's) hardware to add some warmth and maybe a decorative ceiling mounted pendant above the sink for some interest. (Again, hardware is easier to replace in the future.) Run the cabinets all the way up to the ceiling and add crown on top of the wall cabinets. Go with a flat panel door style instead of raised panel as you have currently. Good luck and enjoy the process!
