Side return kitchen - island or peninsula layout!?
Comments (17)Loving the island thanks. Feels really open. We dropped the ceiling height when it's non kitchen to differentiate spaces/zones for dining v's kitchen. We haven't got round to buying stools for island yet and not sure we will, with the dining table being so near and a toddler who likes to run around it!...See MoreIsland or Peninsula?
Comments (17)Hello again The layout of your kitchen (cupboard location), as well as your preferences, affects the decision of island or peninsula. You can not properly decide on whether an island/peninsula suits you and your space better, without viewing each as part of its optimal design. The dishwaher, when open, is an obstruction of the walkway. Where is the bin by the way? In the second plan you have a short stretch of landing space between the stove and oven, near the fridge. It would end up serving all three in all likelihood, and is "the walk-in aspect of the pantry adds little" I'm not suggesting your pantry is too small in size. To have a walk-in the way yours is indicated (2nd plan particularly), you may as well have a cupboard of shelves or pull out drawers. It is simply recessed, it does not add useable storage space. I took the window dimensions to be mm, not inches. 3m is better. What direction does it face? Again, is this a new build? It would help to see this as part of the larger plan, even a simple sketch. There are things you can always work around, the fridge to sink distance, the landing space, pretty much everything. But you can have workable or optimal. I strongly recommend you meet with a designer if at all possible. In-person, s/he will be able to assess your space and talk about preferrences far more. They should also work out zones for prep, cooking, clean up, and so on, to get a well functioning end result. Also, if you post this under 'Kitchen forums', you'll get even more in depth, and better advice from the regulars there....See MoreMixed kitchen worktops in small(ish) kitchen
Comments (7)Thanks ‘Man about the house’, we hope to house the boiler, but as it’s non-standard size (it’s a commercial sized boiler) we are exploring doing a bespoke cabinet with a standard door but this depends on the cost! I like the idea of a light and airy kitchen - will definitely explore this. For cabinet doors, am now thinking perhaps f&b ammonite coloured doors but worried that grey won’t be in fashion in a few years so perhaps looking at colours that are more classical/light such as f&b old white or James white. Currently testing these colours on our kitchen wall! Will post pictures when am home....See MoreSmall kitchen island design advice please, two-tone or single
Comments (8)Normally i think islands in a small room work better if they’re in the same colour. Personally I prefer Matt and think shaker style would work. The kitchen will probably look bigger minus handles but I think shaker handleless are more expensive but might be wrong. You could have discreet handles anyway. Have you considered an induction hob? It’s sleeker and will give you more worktops space when not in use. It also looks as if you could have a deeper than normal worktop on the back run (more storage space)? i added some tiles for texture but you may hate the colour (Apologies for the bad photoshop!)...See MoreKitchen Design Group of Cincinnati, LLC
