Hi Katie - Congratulations on the imminent arrival! Friends have just bought their 1st house, another is starting a home Bridal business and both have babies and toddlers - I take my hat off to them. Went to the 1st home yesterday and Emily has decorated almost half of the house - white,white white and it's so refreshing. She'll get round to it as time allows adding art later as she finds and can afford it. I admired 3 amazing pieces of framed art in the kitchen, and was stunned to find her 3 year old painted them! For the future I think it's a lovely thing to do as opposed to just sticking bits of paper onto the wall. So... I agree that getting started before the birth is terrific and, with regard to the hallway, which I'm assuming is entrance, and depending on the size available, a box for outdoor shoes would be good - perhaps white wicker? Oblong? Have a look at Wayfair and in particular Naeve Leuchten for lighting ideas. It's all there. Achica is a site I use often for fabulous reduced price bargains. They only order from the distributor when the deal closes so you may have to wait, but there's always a rough guide as to when delivery would be. I'm sure that when your gorgeous wallpaper is up and the hall is both decorated and dressed you'll see which mirror is right. Perhaps the black framed mirror would look fine above the console??? Maybe the other one could be placed directly at the top of the stairs to reflect the hall or - random - on the door??? The 'THREE' thing relates to gardening - three or five pots/bushes etc, but a lamp, a trinket/key tray and then maybe a low vase would follow this rule too. Good luck with all of this - sorry the lengthy reply has taken you away from decorating, so go girl, pick up the brush and open the paint pots! A place to immediately take your dirty boots and wet raincoat off. I've seen lots of entrances designed nicely with a thought of minimalism which had just a closed wardrobe at the opposite corner to hide your closes and shoes in, and there always 've been a problem of a pile of dirty boots near the door or a dirty footprints 'road' between a door and a shoe-washing place and puddles of water from raincoats on the way to the wardrobe. Design should be practical. Entrance is a transition room between dirty street and cozy rooms, so it has to provide smooth transition, giving you things which make your life easier and more comfortable. If it's hard for you to lace your shoes standing, it has to have a seat. If you have a big family, you need a place (it may be just a mat or kind of open shelving) near the door to take all of your shoes off. If it's rainy or snowy where you live you need some spot to let your coats dry a bit before hiding them to the wardrobe and so on. If you use umbrellas, you need a spot to put it once you enter the house... There are lots of other practical things you may need.

I hope it goes well. If you use a paper with an iridescent finish it will add some light and movement to the space. A vinyl finish will make it more hardwearing and easier to keep clean.

I agree with others about artwork and/or books. Slim bookshelves for small paperbacks or you could use picture ledges for either nice cookery books or other books to display front side forward or for actual pictures! Could also add interest with high level shelf and plants that cascade down. Also look at picture lights that can be mounted on walks above pics/shelves you can get battery powered ones if you don't want to hard wire into walls. Also a rug/runner will help cosy things up.
