Where do you start designing a room?

As designers we constantly strive to produce unique stimulating ideas. Our clients expect personal designs in keeping with their personalities and lifestyles. So when the initial consultations are over and the design process starts, where do you go from there?

When we are endlessly challenged to find new inspiration for colour combinations or a softer lighting solution, or the perfect texture of upholstery for an accent chair. So we pare back and turn to all manner of things, our minds take in a vast variety of shapes, objects, textures along with natural and man-made forms, even the colour of our vanilla ice cream! The list is infinite, and sometimes we get inspired without even realising.

As we continue to be stimulated in this way, we would love to hear what's the most unusual thing you were inspired by recently?

Furniture and flooring need to be long stay options, so I would choose these first, then introduce colors of walls from curtains and pick it up in cushions and rug. that way it is easy to freshen up room in a few years without changing the major expenses e.g. new paint color and cushions

Hi Claire. How much wardrobe space do you actually need? If you built in front of the ensuite with a faux door that would give you c7ft. I've found a pic showing what that would look like with the corridor. You could always add an extra freestanding wardrobe in the nursery or alternatively have wardrobes opposite the bed and obviously stop them c4ft short of the window. I think the bed could go on either long wall TBH and assuming you want a dressing table then have that opposite with a chair in the corner. I love shagreen ATM so would have a shagreen feature wall, this is by Osborne and little (2nd pic) and also comes in grey shades but there are a number around. Colour scheme I'd go for grey, mustard and linen shades with some black and brass for accessories. The dressing table (console) is by Shropshire design and I'd add a cube footstool to this. I think a wood floor looks good for a boudoir look, these 2 are vinyl planks by amtico and the dark colour would look great against brass. Lampshade is by Oka and chair by rowan and wren. Perhaps just pile up some pillows on the bed and add mustard velvet cushions with a draped faux fur throw. I'd add black framed art behind the bedside lamps and a tall potted plant by the doors would also look good. I'd probably just go for Roman blinds for the door and windows, you may be able to squeeze dress curtains with hold backs in too but looks as if they would slightly cover the radiators?

Swapping kitchen and bedroom - where do I start?

Hello and congratulations on purchasing your flat. I just thought if you had considered swapping the location of the bedroom and the lounge? I don’t know what that side of the property is like (if there is a busy road etc) but I thought it might be a better option to move the bedroom from the middle of the flat. Therefore you all your entertaining rooms/areas are on one side and your peaceful bedroom is on the other. Another option which would be more costly and I’m sure you will have to go through applications with the lease holder & seek expert advice etc.....is to consider removing the walls between the current kitchen area and the bedroom... the space maybe come more workable. Of course not everyone is a fan of open plan living, but I thought I’d throw that into the mix. Love the idea of the range type cooker in the chimney breast area too. All the best and sorry about my primary school draws attached, but it sort of shows what I’m talking about...ish 😊
