Small kitchen advice
Comments (66)Kitchen Update: I finally got round to sorting my kitchen out and have had a storage banquette and pantry cupboard built. It looks great and I'm very happy with it. However what colour cushions should I get and also should I stain the reclaimed wood table top? It's a small kitchen so i've kept the colour neutral (grey, white, greyish duck egg blue) but I'm concerned that it might start to all look a bit mitchy-matchy and a bit 'twee' if I add cushions the same sort of colour. Would a navy blue stripe work, for instance? Thank you!...See Moreadvice on open plan kitchen/dinner and small living area layout
Comments (0)Hi, I’ve just bought a house which requires full refurbishment. I’m looking to open up Kitchen/Breakfast room and dinner area to create a large open plan. However I’m confused on what’s the best layout so I can maximum unit, dinning area and a small living/sofa area? The window in the kitchen can be moved....See MoreSmall kitchen island design advice please, two-tone or single
Comments (8)Normally i think islands in a small room work better if they’re in the same colour. Personally I prefer Matt and think shaker style would work. The kitchen will probably look bigger minus handles but I think shaker handleless are more expensive but might be wrong. You could have discreet handles anyway. Have you considered an induction hob? It’s sleeker and will give you more worktops space when not in use. It also looks as if you could have a deeper than normal worktop on the back run (more storage space)? i added some tiles for texture but you may hate the colour (Apologies for the bad photoshop!)...See MoreAdvice on how to extend this small narrow house
Comments (10)Again putting in a door isn’t cheap but can easily be done (note the very important lintel above the door in your photo). However in this instance I would be inclined to put the door in the rear wall of your proposed extension immediately opposite the existing external double doors in your dining. This would ensure free uninterrupted flow through the house and would bring in light and offer views out from the dining room. It would also retain the twin aspect front to rear. If they are in good condition then you could relocate these doors to this new location in the proposed extension. This would save funds forking out on opening up a doorway in your existing house wall and purchasing new doors. You could also move the lovely light above the door or retain it in its current location. I wouldn’t put internal door between the new kitchen and dining. Leave it open. Taking onboard what Neasa suggested. Have you considered how much use you would get from your dining room? It is a big chunk of the ground floor space. Could you make do with the existing small kitchen but reorientate it by blocking off the door into the hall and flipping the U shaped kitchen 90 degrees. This would allow a kitchen island or peninsula between your existing kitchen and proposed extension. The existing dining could become a snug, office, library, music room, whatever takes your fancy. Do you have space to fit a utility in the hall up against what was a door into the kitchen but is now a proposed wall? It doesn’t appear to be too long a stretch to take the waste out to the drains....See MoreJanie Gibbs-BRING SOPHIE BACK
