Need Curtain advice
Comments (3)If you want it to look vintage, I wouldn't go for sheer rollers as they're contemporary looking. If you're not so bothered about privacy, and don't want to feel hemmed in, but feel you should have something, how about half panels for the lower part of the window? Sheer linen looks great made into flat panels with a slot at the top for a narrow net rod, and a batten sewn into hem to add weight. But you'll still have a bit of a view out of the top half of the window....See MoreNeed help choosing a curtain/blind fabric!
Comments (2)Good news is that I've chosen some curtains - a neutral pleated set, with a black out lining, from John Lewis that go with the wallpaper background without being sparkly...! On the off-chance that someone has experience with fitting curtains on awkward walls, can anyone recommend what sort of curtain rail / tracking to use for this window? I.e. a couple of inches of wall space to the left, and zero to the right of the window... Thanks!...See MoreAdvice please curtains and blinds
Comments (3)Hi Diana, Whenever I specify Roman Blinds I recess them into the window and put dress curtains on each side (not functioning, purely for show and to soften the look) The issue I have is that the failure rate on Romans is very high, the pull string mechanism is very delicate and can jam up after regular use. Given the choice I would not specify them. My preferred solution is to inset plantation shutters into each window and then dress the outside with a simple pair of dress curtains each side or a modern swag over the head. I have done this on traditional interiors and ultra modern and they always look good. I never have any ongoing issues and the light quality the blades give is wonderful. (I prefer a large blade and avoid the central pole in favour of a hidden mechanism.) Another interesting feature of plantation shutters is that in the evening you push the shutters up for privacy and this deflects the heat back into the room, it saves a lot of money !!
