Cedar and pipe railings

Hi, can you please explain how you built these railings? Which method did you use to secure the pipes in the posts? Are these galvanized Plumbing pipes that you painted with metal paint? Thank you for your help!!

Hi Heather,

We used galvanized plumbing pipes, primed and painted. We drilled the holes in the post and assembled in sections.

I like how your bathroom is looking so far and the traditional style. I would go for a high quality, shower curtain in a gorgeous pattern. I love the ones from anthropologie for example. Why do people like radiators? They take up space, mess up the look of a room, leak and creak, need a boiler and maintenance, plus they make decorating the wall really tricky. If you need to heat your house but don't want the cluttered 'radiator' look, then check out www.discreteheat.com... (water or electric skirting board heating). Modern passive and super-insulated solar dwellings do not need a 'heating system' - they cost very little to run and don't even need a wood burner, - which would very quickly cause overheating! (Note: Biomass fuel is not carbon neutral; not until you have fully grown a replacement ). Other choices are underfloor heating which can be water or electric based. Another option is infra-red heating www.infraredcompany.com and www.herschel-infrared.co.uk, but it would be healthier all round if we started to evolve faster and stopped thinking like cavemen/womem. The way forward is insulation and the reduction of energy use, not radiators and fossil fuels.

Are you sure you want to go industrial? The room looks like a cute little period bedroom not a converted warehouse (yes, I do know the industrial style is very fashionable at the moment). Personally, I like the idea of having a whole wall of curtains. Alternatively, is there a wallpaper with the same pattern that you could use on the wall? As you seem to like mid-century, vintage pieces too, I think I'd stick to that theme as it's more likely to really complement the room.

I would leave leave the centre divide in have the side with the stair box in as shelving and put two rails in the other side for double height hanging. looking at the height you may get a shelf above the top rail also.
