Need to convert your garage into a studio?

Simpla recently designed a garden around the conversion of a garage into a garden studio. This allowed an a disused space to be transformed into an open plan studio, creating both active use and potential granny flat options.

The design encompasses a pool and an improved driveway from the existing run down concrete.

Hi Zoe, The first consideration is insulation. Do we need planning permission to convert garage?

You won't need planning permission but will have to comply with building regulations on a few things such as ventilation, fireproofing, means of escape and such. Things differ from each council so best speaking to your local one as they will point you in the right direction and allow for building control to visit at right times .

Should come within PD if you aren't enlarging. You could need change of use to habitable space. You will def need to conform to building regs and this conversion is notifiable. Contact a local architect and or your local planning office/ building control if you need more help.

Hi Just Add Popcorn Limited. That is such a great idea. We like that you break up the space into both storage and entertainment. Garageflex - That is also very true, storage space is very valuable, especially in newer homes that are being converted substantially. In this case, a combination space sounds like it could be the best of both worlds for some homeowners!
