I've just got a 760x760 shower and it's fine for us. The room is 327 x97 (they must have lost a fair bit with tiling and plumbing). My previous ensuite was a similar size with the same size shower. We fitted our old ensuite and the priority for me was a really good shower rather than a teaspoon of water over your head! I know you may look a bit mad but you could go to a showroom and try getting in a cubicle! Or see if any friends have the same size as I think you'll need the extra space for getting ready but it does obviously also depend on the height and build of your family

Thank you both so much for your excellent suggestions. I am so heartened you think there are better configurations. Jonathan - I see that I should have given the measurement for the short wall in the corner, which is 900mm. Even though I cannot get to 1000mm x 1200mm,I think a 900mm x 1200mm shower would be a major improvement. Yes, I'd normally want to avoid opening a door straight onto a view of the loo, but I'd not rule it out to make the room better. Rinq - I've attached a plan to show the shower in more context. It really is the ultimate "add-on"! Sadly, there is no space for anything in the corridor but we do have an airing cupboard elsewhere. The shower room extension is partly below ground (with a French drain) so all the green areas below are banks sloping up from the house. This, and moving the drain outside the bedroom door, is probably why extending would cost so much. You've given me some more great ideas so I will start checking out the cost of moving the soil stack versus relocating the basin.

rinq good point. Here is what we have so far. Some notes: - The rest of the plan has changed slightly so I don't want to waste people's time commenting on that. I will upload our final draft in a new post when we have it for feedback on the whole plan. - The main room in question has had 1m added along the horizontal to make it 8.90m long. - We have decided we want to swap the kitchen and dining rooms. - The front door has also been removed from that back wall (the bottom of the plan) so that back wall is now doorless. The front door is now located where the word "screenshot" is conveniently located. :D Ellie good questions. The house is being designed now. The architects have suggested a room this size based on feedback we gave them. Now we have it drawn up we don't love it. For example, I hate having the back of the sofa in the way of the hallway there. I think that is terrible design. It all looks cramped to me. There are 3 of us in this home. In the plan above you can see a rectangle in the top right with the lines across it. That is a closed in porch/veranda so there is some living space there too. Hi Tas! If it was me then I wouldn't continue the kitchen back along that wall and instead create more of a galley kitchen with an island facing towards the back and a bank of full height units against the wall. This would make the rest of the room more useable by keeping the kitchen more compact and with as much storage as you need. In open plan spaces like that I find that one of the things that people find most difficult is deciding where to put the TV! I've had a lot of people come to me after they've had that kind of open plan design, but it doesn't really work for what they want to use it for.
