Could you tell me the dimensions of the skylights and is it two skylights combined or one ?

Hello,

The skylight was approx 2’8” x 7’ down each slope. It is a one piece skylight, custom built.

Have an Eichler in Sacramento not nearly as grand as the one pictured, still if feasible would like to incorporate that idea in a smaller scale.

Do you have representatives in the Sacramento area?

I have three of these in a loft--side-by-side and quite large. Besides the summer sun baking in, my furniture was beginning to fade. The cost of blinds was pretty steep, so I opted to use light-cream drapery panels with a rod pocket sewn into both ends and thin tension rods to hold them taut. Works like a charm! I still have plenty of light--a softer, diffused light. And the light fabric reflects most of the heat. Plus, the UV damage has stopped. Another bonus--the fabric acts as an insulator in winter so there's much less radiant cold off the glass. A win-win, and the whole arrangement cost less than $100.

Could you use the "Solatube" system? Then the hole for the skylight would have a minimal effect on your ability to use your roof deck.

Hi. This is an interesting design question. I wonder why no one's commented on this. This seems like a lot of roof lights. You'll get good daylight, but the space could over-heat in summer and lose heat in winter through them. First thing I wondered is why you have a full-width skylight(s) just behind the windows at the back. I assumed there's a fully glazed foldable screen and glazed double door to the garden/decking. You are making the original house deeper, so if you want to have the similar daylight level at the back of this space (living /dining/kitchen?), then you'd put full width skylight at the line of original house. The full-width roof light is not used efficiently at the current position unless you want to make the front bright for other reasons (though I don't know which direction is facing south). Having said that, your option 1 or 2 without (or smaller) skylght behind the foldable screen might be good enough. For the 'line of first floor flat above', if it's the position of the wall, then there might be a beam going across to hold it. As there is no column there on the plan, the beam might pass just under your roof light if you don't align them. At roof light manufacturer's web site you'll find standard sizes they produce in their brochure. Some roof lights are for sloped roofs and some are for flat roofs, so you have to choose a suitable product depending on the angle of your roof.

Hi, We are currently planning our kitchen diner extension. We will be adding 2 skylights (2000 x 1000mm). 1 in the kictchen, lengthways just off of the edge of the island which will be a seating end of the island. Then the 2nd in the diner which opens up ono patio/garden. You can see in the plan that currently the lantern in the diner is widthways and we can not decide if this will work best, or if it should be changed to lengthways. The diner is 3600 long by 3350 wide so almost square, we plan to have a 6-8 seater dining table in the room. Any advice would be very welcome for this indecisive couple. Thanks
