white gloss kitchen advice? want a cottage style look

Hi
I have bought a house and the kitchen is white gloss
I’m wanting it to feel more cottage look as that’s what I like
I’ve got to decorate everywhere
Was thinking grey/ beige / whites etc
Any ideas would be welcome
Don’t want to have to replace kitchen
Could change handles or worktops
This is how it looks

Hi there! Is this the kitchen in your new home or just similar? Either way, stunning! You could definitely country-fy this space. Is it definitely white gloss and not beige?

I know you don't want to change the kitchen itself but you are willing to change the work tops - how do you feel about changing just the door fronts? So not the carcasses at all, just the doors which is a lot less costly than replacing the kitchen.

I think the worktop is great for a country style even if a little dark, but a classic design for country kitchens is definitely matt shaker units with either brushed silver knobs or shell style handles so this would make a huge difference!

If not, it's still very possible! I Always say the two Ws of country style kitchen are Woods and Weaves! So baskets, trays, wood accents, woven decor etc. and can't beat a bit of cladding if you're wanting to decorate the walls! Keep to a similar colour to the kitchen so it doesn't stick out too much, keep it subtle.

Some pics below for inspiration! I have tried to keep them to the same style that yours already is just to show you how it is possible to decorate around the pretty modern style.

Hi. It’s a nice kitchen. I’d leave the worktop as it works with a country look, handles are also quite difficult to replace. If possible I would remove the cupboards either side of the extractor and have wall lights either side, which hopefully wouldn’t be too difficult. I’d remove the SS splashback and tile instead. Add shelves to the left of the window and accessorise (not as chunky as these, just trying to find an image of shelves next to a window!). Perhaps a sisal rug under the dining table to add some texture, you could also look at a Kilim style one for the kitchen. I think beigey colours would work with the cream with duck egg accents for roman blinds etc. Rattan bar stools would also add texture and then it’s about accessories

White gloss is still a firm favourite with customers. Why not mix your gloss kitchen with other things like wood tops, or other gloss colours to soften it down. I personally prefer cream in a kitchen door as even if they are gloss, they tend not to run with certain trends and have a warm tone. Don't worry about fashion either because if you are staying in the property your kitchen will be there for a lot of years, so its much more important that you have what you want, rather than what everyone else is doing. I have designed many white gloss kitchens and if you get it right they will always look classy and stylish

Hi, How about a light grey or maybe even a smoky grey glass splahback, to complement the flecks in the worktop. As you will have wood effect flooring, this will instantly add warmth to the room. I also like the above idea of using hexagonal tiles, adds some interest without detracting from the worktop. You could also look at subtle marble effect tiles.

Hello, I have just finished DIY-ing my small white kitchen, but your lovely kitchen is large enough for you to play with colour. But also can be costly if you do not like what you have chosen. There is so much out there, it can be taunting. Take your time as there is no hurry (unless you have self imposed one) as the kitchen seasons change and you must have this and that NOW! Looking at your pictures you seem to like yellow, orange and there seems to be some greens (Ornaments, pots and plates) plus some woods. Start with those colours to compliment and pull it all together. What are your favourite colours, flowers? Or a favourite piece of fabric, pattern, design style or era ? Start with things you like then eliminate. If you are not sure as depending on your kitchen orientation the colours will change with the light, also due to shelving, cupboards a lot of shadows will darken the colour. I could experiment with some colour pots or and get some made up of a colour you like or take the ornament to a DIY store. They can make up the colour for a couple of pounds. Paint some paper A4 or bigger with whatever colour you think will work. If you think glass splashbacks put a piece of glass over it (an picture frame glass will do, if you do not have one they are pennies at a charity shop and you can donate it back), hang them at different places in the kitchen at different times of the day with lights on and off. If tiles, get samples. Do the same thing. If you cannot return the tile samples use as place mats or to protect your kitchen surface. If there is a wall paper that you think will give your kitchen a kick. You can use it and then seal it by putting clear acrylic or glass over it, if going for clear glass check if it has a green hue or pure clear, a green hue will change the colour underneath it. And the inside of your shelves can be a colour or pattern too. If you have children or grandchildren, you can now with laser technology get templates and photos of them and or their art work on paper an seal it. I hope this helps to do what you want and not influenced by "designer fashion". Have fun!

Hi Tracey, Why not look at getting the Crittall doors in white to match the bifolds? I haven't got a close up photo of the Crittall system in white but I have a photo of a similar aluminium system in white which may be give you an idea of it being a suitable match to your white bifolds... The black can look a little stark against other white doors or windows but the style is such a great look it is well worth exploring the possibilities. Just realised it’s cream and yes this is the actual kitchen
I have to purchase a new table and accessories and colour scheme
Would love greys beiges
Then can use this colour throughout the house
I’m coming out of a farmhouse into a modern type and so nothing I’ve got really looks like it will work

I agree with Minnie. Don't change the worktop.

It looks like a fantastic kitchen. It's mainly the furniture in the photo that makes it a little stark and almost office-like.

Perhaps the white floor tiles are too cold looking. Again Minnie's ideas should solve that.

Agree also with Luxury Code, I too feel it's absolutely possible to decorate around the current style. I'm sure you can put your own stamp on it and add some character.
