Ideas for a enclosed porch

I live in a fairly plain looking 1980s house with brown UPVC windows. We would love to add a front enclosed porch with an apex roof but I don’t want to use brown UPVC. I like oak porches but I think it would look out of place. Has anybody got any creative ideas?

Good morning,

Adding a porch to any external door of your house is considered to be permitted development, not requiring an application for planning permission, provided:
1. the ground floor area (measured externally) would not exceed three square metres.
2. no part would be more than three metres above ground level (height needs to be measured in the same way as for a house extension).
3. no part of the porch would be within two metres of any boundary of the dwellinghouse and the highway.

You could explore changing the appearance the house with a rendered entrance porch, with new render to the existing house and new contemporary windows in a new colour/material - however this will require a planning application.

The plan is to keep the windows as they are? There is a lovely paint colour called Castle Grey (F&B) which is a greeny grey and I'm wondering if you had your porch and garage in this colour, plus some lighter planting and pots, it could really lift the house? Not sure how pink your drive is though? The only image I could find with brown and castle grey is this one... (Hopefully colourhappy will be along soon to advise if they could work or clash!)

I think it's safe to say that the crux of the matter is the 80's extension roof. If you're going to the trouble of a new extension then the roof needs to go and then both bits tied in properly. The doorway through to the back garden is too close to the Front door, and the roof is larger than that of the front door. They at the very least need to be identical sizes, or preferably under one roof the same pitch and proportions as that of the garage. The porch needs to be grander and centralised. I'm no expert plan drawer by any means, but i did a mock up of what i had in mind, the rest would be down to the architect and budget.

Hi all...first time query and hope someone can offer inspiration! I'd like to add a small porch on to my main entrance( which is at the back of my 170msq house and is north-facing) and I've attached a photo of it as it is now. The house is an ICF building with a standard, off-white render finish. Facing the door, 9m behind the house is a newly constructed timber finish garden office, using the same dark-green window frames. I plan to enclose the yard with timber-fencing to form a vaguely courtyard-feel... My question: I think a 3x2m (ish) size enclosed flat-roof porch with some render, some timber, and dark-green window frames could work well .....but I'd like someone with a designer/architect's eye to give me a steer in the right direction. Hi, The planners will consider it a permanent structure, and it will have to be built to latest building standards. Also many other factors will be counted in like conservation, loss of daylight , loss of outlook etc. Where approx. is the flat located? I would consider commissioning a joiner to make a bespoke door for the porch with a shaped top. I have a Victorian terrace with a small porch - our entire street have added outer doors over the years. Ours was very ugly when we got it and we considered removing completely, but the heat loss was a big concern - so I found a joiner to make something that was more in-keeping. Whilst It isn’t as it would have been originally, it looks fairly authentic because the top is shaped to fit. Here’s a couple of shaped top doors for ideas. Hi, we are not allowed to have coloured windows, sadly they have to be brown which limits our options for a porch.
