Curtains for strange window
The photo is the before from the previous owners. The curtain rail has been removed and the walls are going to be replastered.
The window is very wide and a bay-less bay so the window is bay shaped but the wall is flat with a bay shaped window sil.
There is the only radiator for the room under the window sil and this cannot be moved.
I would prefer floor length curtains but I’m concerned about losing heat from the large window.
I just cannot visualise blinds on the window given the shape. They would have to sit at the front of the bay. Would this work?
Do I have any other options?

Comments (14)I have no idea if they are duette or not. It's so long ago now that I can't remember what they are called but they are a pleated blind. Mine aren't black out as it's a sunroom but I'm sure you could get a black out option if needed. I have attached some more photos so you can see what they look like open. Comments (5)As you say shutters would be the most expensive so you are down to either blinds or curtains or both. If you are more contemporary with your choices then I would opt for blinds but if you feel as though you want something more fancy with texture then curtains fits the bill. I originally had curtains at my bay window but they were a pain to keep dragging around the corners of the pole so also invested in blinds which have been a godsend. We only use the blinds now at night but the curtains offer a 'frame' on the window as the lounge is on the front of the house so at least it looks as though we have something at the windows for passers by as you cannot see the blinds when they are up....See MoreBay window curtain rail

5 years agoI have a bay window (a proper one lol!) and I have a radiator below it. I was in a similar dilemma as you, but my windowsill juts out so we chose short curtains with sit perfectly on the sill. I can’t see the point of closing long curtains over a radiator, especially in the winter. My friend has a similar window and she chose roman blinds, about 4 or 5 of them and they do look very smart. Here is a corner of my bay.

5 years agoYou could fit blinds on each window and then have dress curtains. The light in the room looks good but rollers will block less light than romans or alternatively voile romans. Assuming the radiator is central just extend the curtain pole an inch or so so the curtains don't fall on the radiator. This would also work with shutters or a cheaper option is wide slat Venetians with tape giving the appearance of shutters. I'd also paint the radiator in the wall colour so it blends in
