Ideas for two different size bedroom windows

Hi all, I'm decorating my first home - a ground floor flat - but I'm stuck for ideas for the bedroom windows.

As you can see from the photos there are two windows of different size in my bedroom, which face the parking area in the front. The spaces are unallocated and often there will be people I don't know parked directly in front of each window. The room is now painted white with a light silver glitter on the back wall opposite the built in mirror wardrobes, dado rail removed (building was built early 90s). The existing blinds and nets have been thrown away. These windows face east east south.

I'm a bit of a loss as to what to do with the windows. Privacy is essential, so I need some sort of voile covering the window but I want the light.

I do not like Venetian blinds but am open to roller and Roman blinds. I'm not sure whether curtains would look right either. Any ideas?

Roman shades to the ceiling will help co-ordinate the wall. You can still put blinds (regular or blackout) behind them to protect you privacy while keeping the interior attractive.

Shutters could be an option or do you not like them? I don't think you have the room for curtains so agree would layer blinds, a voile roller inside the recess and Roman blinds outside

Will try to later as I'm at the office right now. We are redecorating the whole room though so can essentially work from a blank canvas. Room is square, good size, with bed on back wall facing big window. I just wondered if there are any new fancy designer style lighting on the market at the moment, just something better than a ceiling lampshade!

It would help to have a few more details. Who would be living here, budget etc. If it is for 2 professional sharers, I wonder if you could squeeze an ensuite into each reception room to make 2 good size bedrooms. I'd then open up the kitchen and hall (removing the bathroom, and make a small kitchen living area. If it is for you, and you need a master plus occasional or child's bedroom I would install kitchen units onto the back wall of the reception room, make the existing kitchen a bedroom and add a second bathroom/utility/storage room (depending on priorities) in the hall way gap as you planned. All plumbing, permissions. dependent etc...

I think if the location works for you and you can afford to extend, and can’t find a better alternative then it make sense to extend. Especially if you’re going to stay for a while! We are nearing the end of quite a big extension/refurb and it has cost a lot, but is cheaper than moving would have been, and we are aiming to stay here for the foreseeable future, so it felt worthwhile spending the money. If you’re extending, moving walls, new bathrooms and kitchens, it will rapidly add up, as you’ll also need new Flooring, extra windows etc Is there enough head height in the loft to do a partial loft conversion perhaps?

@Erwin, yes I do need for the freeholder to approve, I will ask him as soon as I find out what can and cannot be done. Also, we did find out that what's between the kitchen and the bathroom is indeed an unused chimney that currently hosts our boiler... Not sure if it's worth moving the boiler outside and demolish the chimney @LoftCraft London, yes it is a 1930s purpose built maisonette, I'm impressed by your keen eye! Do you have any experience with this kind of layouts? Like examples of what people have done to reconfigure such an unusual floor plan? I haven't been able to find any examples for inspiration

I agree that voile rollers will give you privacy and still look modern, and Romans on top will give you blackout and bring colour to the room. We got voile rollers at the front as we are overlooked and they are brilliant.

Thanks all!

Yes, not a fan of shutters and they wouldn't be in keeping with the rest of the building but I love the Roman blinds and voile roller idea.

A little update: blinds finally delivered and installed today, a good looking solution that looks fresh and modern and doesn't make the room too dark. This picture was taken this evening, around 7pm.
