Deciding how to mix wood tones/color in bedroom

I recently purchased a dark espresso dresser (photo included looks more red than it is; put a photo from in store) and am now in search of a chest of drawers that will flow with the dark espresso dresser. I can’t decide if black would be a good choice or do I choose ivory/white? A lighter wood?

I do do have a black headboard; however, it is changeable and when the bed is made it’s not too noticeable.

Any sugeatiomd are apprecisted and welcome. Thank you.

Could you post a pic of the bedroom and also do you really need a chest of drawers and a dresser. I am all for not matching everything but IMO those 2 pieces should match or it will begin to look like secondhand store (not bad I guess) but not good in my mind.

If they are not on the same wall, and expresso may work. If they will be close to each other, I don't recommend trying to find a match as it will be noticeable that they aren't from the same maker. Lighter wood is not something I would recommend either as it won't work with your existing furniture. Painted finishes are forgiving in coordinating with existing wooden pieces.

What a lovely room. It just needs a few finishing touches to give it a lift. From your photos, the oak floor looks slightly orange in tone as do your storage units. Orange will only serve to accentuate this and bring little to the scheme. Blue is a contrast to orange, so you may want to consider this. Try laying some colourful clothes on your bed, one at a time to see how it works in the room. To retain a restful feeling, you need a blue that coordinates with the quilt, which looks slightly beige. This photo will give you the idea. Purple is another colour to try, but it has more visual impact. Remember, a little colour will go a long way in your room.

You could put bedside table next to the wall on the left and install a shelf above the heater and that can be your bedside on the right side. The room will look more balanced with the bed in the middle. Or if you can position bed to face your built in wardrobe. Either way you need to address the window covering. If you can find a heavy curtain and bedspread in the same fabric and hang curtain directly under the cornice and twice as wide as your window, that will give you the height and balance the window size and by matching fabric you will have continuity and avoid miss matching colours and patterns.

Thanks for responding to soon, all! To respond to each in turn: Daisy - I definitely agree regarding the chair - just need someone to take the thing off me. The headboard is an issue as it holds the bed together so not sure how smooth replacing it could be. It seems all agree regarding the pictures so down they will come. Leaning towards the curtains, too. Thank you! Jen - The feature wall and knitted throw is a common theme so something I'll look to invest in! Just a case of what way to go with the feature wall and how to have the other walls tied in to it. Hmmm Minnie - as always, thank you. I actually looked at Hague blue but thought it was just too dark, although I'm torn again after seeing that picture. I might get some samples, as I like the contrast and it goes with a few ideas I saw. I had been thinking about a colour more like the one at the top of this post (which I can't move for whatever reason), which isn't too far from Hague blue (not sure of the exact colour right now but recall seeing it). I assume you'd move the bed closer to the window to allow more space with the drawers being by the door. The table by the bed wasn't the best as it's so high and the bed is rather low - to be honest I'll likely move the console table out the room at some point; not decided yet. I need to get a pendant light but figured I'd get it once doing the bigger things - the current light shade is looking very sorry for itself. A mirror does need inserting (something my girlfriend reminds me of weekly) - would you say a full-length onejust to the right of the wardrobe entrance? Your colour scheme - with the greys and mustards - sounds good, too!

Generalisation now… 100% wool Tends to be used most with structured loops, sometimes referred to as "naturals". It's very rare you will find 100% wool used when making twist pile carpets. Example of a typical 100% wool loop - click here. 80/20 (80% wool; 20% a.n. other) This blend tends to be most common in the functional twist carpet. One thing to consider is what is the 20%? To keep the price down, manufacturers will use polypropylene which we explained about the pros and cons of polypropylene in our previous comments. If you can afford it, we would recommend looking for either 20% polyamide (aka nylon), 20% polyester or a mix of polyamide and polyester to go with the 80% wool… you dig? These blends, with 80% wool, will out perform an 80% wool, 20% polypropylene -> FACT. Here's an example of an 80% wool, 20% polypropylene twist pile carpet - click here. Here's an example of an 80% wool, 10% polyamide, 10% polyester twist pile carpet - click here. You'll note a difference in their prices for comparable products. We'll get on to clarifying another reason for this price difference in a minute. 50% wool, 50% a.n. other This blend is all about making wool more affordable. Very rarely used in twist pile carpet these days, so it's more likely you will find this blend of mix in the structured wool loop market. Examples of a typical 50% wool loop carpet - click here, and click here. It's not really about what's the best wool blend, it's more about the look you most prefer as this dictates the wool blend in the carpet. Most important, actually, is the quality of the yarn used. New Zealand is recognised as the best. Wears incredibly well and allows strikingly clean colours eliminating berber (flecky) hues. New Zealand wool is the most expensive of wool yarns for these reasons. Here's an example of an 80% New Zealand wool twist carpet - click here and here's an example of a 100% New Zealand wool loop pile carpet - click here. Difficult to show you over the internet but if you were to see these side by side against comparable products NOT using New Zealand wool you would be able to see how much "crisper" the colours are in the products that use New Zealand. As for the moths' munching habits, it's likely they will prefer a higher wool content product but it has been known for the blighters to munch through 50% blends too. If you are in a region where moths are reported to eating wool then avoid any doubt and opt for a carpet that carries a manufacturers moth proof warranty. There are many about.
