Need help for an extractor fan for our new kitchen
Comments (1)Dear Marie, From technical and performance point of view you need to take into account weather it is a ducted out or a recirculating fan, how often and what you cook. For aesthetics please consider the size and the finish of the existing cooker when choosing the hood. Comments (1)Hello Tani H-S, I read your previous post a few weeks back and completely understand your dilemna as I have a similar issue, I can't duct out either due to double joists in the way if I wanted to take it into the ceiling and if I don't have it in the ceiling I would have to have a huge boxing in and over hang over my kitchen wall units and huge boxing in under the steel beam which would completely ruin the whole look of the extension and kitchen. I am planning to keep my extractor as re-circulating ( use carbon filter to take out the grease and smells ) and then have a separate extractor fan to pass building regs. I might go for the Airlfow ICON 60, unfortunately it's not industrial looking but looks quite neat in the photos. If you can put the extractor fan as close as possible to the hood that would be better I think but to be honest those extractor fans don't really do that much unless it's part of the ducting. My kitchen is already up and running so I can only advise where I get lots of steam, obviously the hob, then around the oven area ( especially if you have a steam oven ) and also hot water tap. If it gets too steamy, I just resort to opening the velux or sliding doors for a bit which is probably more effective than the little extractor fan....See MoreExtractor hood hight
Comments (7)I had the same dilemma a few months back. I had new kitchen put in along with new extractor. it was at height of 70cm above gas hob. the extractor come out 50cm. I spent a few days trying to get used to it but in the end I was not happy and got the fitters back to raise it to 90cm. it looks a lot better and reduces the risk of me banging my head off the side of the extractor!. no problems extracting steam at that height. Glad I got it done as it would have annoyed me otherwise....See Moresome help with extractor fan ducting in kitchen to be fitted this week
Comments (3)Add a charcoal filter to the stainless steel hood to make it recirculating and add a small electric wall fan ( like expelair type ) where you marked the wall - as long as it extracts a min 60lps that should be ok for uk building Regs....See MoreCarolina
