Overall size of kitchen

Hi,

I would like to know the length and width of this kitchen, as well as the island size.

The island is just shy of 12' by 3' and the room dimension is 21'x12'.

Happy to help. Your kitchen planner or interior designer will work from industry standard measurements for the height of the counter and where the cupboards should be positioned for the reach of an average person. The gap should be approx 450mm. In kitchens that are already built sometimes it isn't - because the person who built it was crazy or very tall or both. As yours will be from scratch you have the chance to build it so it works ergonomically as well as visually. Something you can check with your designer or planner and take it from there.

Hi Julian H, Wow, many thanks for your amazing inspiration! I love the idea of bifold doors, although that would take me way over my budget....but it would be lovely - and has got me thinking...! Unfortunately I don't want to lose the single door as that is the door to a small bathroom which is difficult to access from elsewhere and would then be access from a carpeted floor rather than a tiled floor, which from a muddy garden is a no. …. But with the bi fold doors, I would then be ok with blocking up my side window as per Jonathan's initial comment. Yes, moving the sink and water supply would be a pain/pricey, but it could be worthwhile seeing as everything is coming out - this is the one time opportunity. Let me have a think! Many thanks for this idea. I am trying to avoid having an extension, but maybe bi-folds could get round this and still provide a fabulous view (plus I think my boyfriend's parents are thinking of getting their bi-folds updated!!!). I can strongly recommend open stairs - you will be amazed at how much lighter the hall area becomes, as well as feeling larger. The suggestion of pocket doors is also something that I did and have been very happy with. Second the suggestion to take kitchen cupboards to the ceiling - it makes the room feel taller and that space is really only used as a dust/grease trap otherwise. Finally, you don't have a downstairs toilet: assuming you don't intend to keep a car in the garage, why not think about that area for utility and toilet, plus maybe a study (or playroom if you have kids). Edit: I just saw that you don't want to mess with the concrete slab, which is sensible. Depending on how the soil pipes and sewers run, a toilet could just back to the wall in the current garage area. By the way, check how the heating pipes go. My house was built in 1980 and heating and plumbing run within the slab. It was only when my water bill suddenly shot up that I discovered a leak - a poor quality copper pipe had failed. Very expensive!

Could you please clarify the 12’ width for me? Is that from wall-to-wall (from the left to the right wall behind the cabinets) or, is that measurement from the left wall to the front of the right-side cabinets?
