Hide an ugly radiator

I have a radiator behind my kitchen table which I hate, I'm getting new beautiful wallpaper, I have added a picture of it, on this wall and was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could disguise the ugly radiator, I think a radiator cover will be too big and push my table out

You can 'skim' bricks by way of cutting them down with a disc cutter/angle grinder. You could take 10-15mm off the face of the brick, stick it onto the concrete lintel with suitable adhesive and then point up with mortar but the bricks will stand proud. Now that's OK if you have the equipment to hand and you feel confident to at least give it a go and if that being the case then it's be pretty cheap to do. If you rely on a tradesman doing it then there's no point as it's a lot of 'faffing' that will end up costing a fortune in labour. If I were to do it I might even take out 10-20mm of the lintel with an angle grinder and chisel and then fit the slips flush but you'd have to take care not to damage the lintel or take too much away. I think you might be safe with a third of the width, similar to the amount you can overhang a brick. Again, a fair amount of work, especially up a ladder! If you get the window company to attach a fascia panel then it would be in-keeping with the new window materials and the current eaves materials. It should be cheap anyway. If, for example, you were replacing the windows with a grey aluminium contemporary window then they might need taking out, but you're going to put in white framed windows that aren't to dissimilar to what you have already so with that being the case I'd personally just save all the hassle and keep the lintels. Out of interest - what have neighbouring properties done or do they all have the same concrete lintel?

Firstly, make sure your insulation is as good as you can get it with double-glazing, cavity wall, etc. This will save you lots in radiator and heating costs in the long run. Then, getting the right heat output is critical. The radiators may be big for a reason so you want to ensure you get enough heat output from the replacements. Hi Colourhappy, it is Purbeck Stone, which was chosen by our super interior designer (Gina from Create Perfect on here). She's teamed it with shadow white on the ceiling and Wimborne White on the woodwork. The base of the fireplace is in Ammonite. We think it looks beautiful- such a warm and contemporary grey. Excuse the state of the floorboards- they need a good clean as are covered in dust from all the rubbing down of the paintwork but here's another couple of pics now the second coat is on. There will also be a large rug under the sofas to break up the brown of floorboards and the sofas Just waiting to put up our new radiators and Best Heating yes of course I'll share some pics once the radiators go up tomorrow!

It looks like the feed for that rad comes down the side of the wall ( under the new conduit )., and I presume was the existing feed not the one below it. So why would the plumber think you would like the new pipes in the wall? Plumbers don't chase walls unless specifically asked to ( not really in their remit ), plus you have to then make the walls good, and paint / decorate. He would also have had to find out where the wiring for that socket was ( also not his remit ), so pay for an electrician first to remove and isolate with a view to putting it back afterwards. So, I stick by the above, as the existing pipes are on the surface, the plumber has followed suit, this is not wrong, It may not be perfect in today's world, but if exisiting pipework is of that ilk, why would a plumber think that you would like that one rad plumbed differently? Homeowners need to take some responsibility here. Yes the plumber could have asked first I suppose? However, all of the above to plumb in one rad with pipes in the wall, would involve two trades, and they'd probably charge for at least a day and half labour and you'd still have holes in the wall to fill and decorate.

I swapped the radiator behind my kitchen table for a short, squat one. Much less noticeable and sloped chair back goes over it.

Just as a rule of thumb, putting furniture next to a rad isn't a good idea. Regarding the radiator, usually trying to hide something just makes it more obvious, consider moving the table out a little, and painting the radiator, even design it if you feel like it. just remember to get radiator paint, its definitely cheaper than getting covers.

Could you move and change the radiator to a nice designer vertical one on the narrow strip of wall at the back of your table?
