Beautiful Stairs/Railing? What material did you use? Poplar, white oak? Etc? Measurements? Are the posts 3" and railings 2.5"? Thx

Hi Rose N. Thank you for your kind words. We used White Oak with a very light stain on it, almost white washed to keep it from looking to yellow. The posts are 4" and the railings are 2.5". I hope this helps you plan a renovation. Good luck!

Thank you for getting back to me. Love the simplicity yet sophistication of the stairway.
I know you mentioned the railing is 2.5". Is that all around? The sides also? Are your balusters iron and what measurement? I am thinking of going with either 3/4 round or square 1/2".

You've got a great space to work with there, lovely hallway with nice light, a vista through to the back and a lovely traditional staircase. If you like the style I would say it just needs a new stair runner and a lick of paint. Have a look at Roger Oates wool stair runners - these are all the rage for this kind of setting at the moment, some gorgeous colours available. Then maybe you could coordinate with some artwork you like to go on the walls and choose a neutral wall paint that works with the colours. You could go all white with the stair bannister, but maybe not if it already works with your colour scheme. Then think about how you could "style up" the view to the back of the house. Another thing to consider is lighting accessories to create a nice welcoming ambience at night. Hope this helps :)

We are in UK. Bungalow with loft conversion. We have kitchen/diner with an open staircase in it which goes up to 3 bedrooms, all with a door and windows. If we had another floor up, we wouldn't be able to have this and wondered to enclose the stairs

there's a lot of panelling and woodwork in there, have you thought of painting it all one colour? walls, woodwork, the lot? Or you could paint the walls a creamy/off white colour with some colour on the panel work? I would recommend changing the door to under the stairs though as its the first thing you see and it looks terrible. maybe something more in keeping with all the woodwork but clearly a cupboard like the doors in the last image?

I can only assume that you don't have any kids, any pets, and probably no husband either. Why would you want to paint your walls white of all colours, it'll look so shabby and dirty after a couple of weeks you'll be wanting to do it again. That's such a high traffic area you'll seriously regret it in no time at all.
