What colour should we paint our small, modern open plan kitchen living
Comments (51)Wow yes lots to waken up to and I'm so grateful for the help! Thanks so much! I tried mforr to find one o those room colouring things for a shop here in the uk and whilt you can do it with dulux paint brand, it didnt seem to like my iPad so need to get onto it on my laptop! Having slept on it I'm thinking I like the idea of doing the kitchen only in colour, and then having highlights of the colour in the LR with cushions perhaps. We considered curtains too but I'm not sure if it would crowd the LR. We are sure that the coffee table is too big also, but I love it (it has a glass top and we can present things in the drawer below). We also have no dining table so this is our only space for setting out food! I'm still liking the green, but the yellow goes well too. We have a tea/coffee jars on our kitchen work top (might be just visible in the pictures) which are green yellow and grey, so if I bring these along to the DIY shop they could colour match those for me. (Along with the list you sent me too mforr!) I will def be back on to show you all the results!! :)...See MoreNo idea on how to furnish our living room! Help on layout needed :)

You are wondering how to make the door end of the room look used. I think we are talking trade offs with the design here, in terms of cost and layout. If you can spend a bit of money it might be worth investigating how to design a new fireplace that incorporates the TV. Sounds horrendous I know, but because you have a large tv it might work, though you’d have to be VERY careful about balance in the positioning and get specialist advice on insulating the tv from the heat from the fire. You also need to consider how much time you spend watching tv and if the upwards angle of view might give you a stiff neck from where you place the sofa...BUT... this would enable you to bring Carolina’s room layout back towards the door, making the room look more occupied, you could then also use celery girls idea to put a sort of separate more intimate seating area in the bay window - two statement chairs and a little table, maybe flanked by a pair of enormous table lamps in front of the curtains to fill the corners and highlight the curtains at night....See MorePeriod living room
Comments (37)Thank you so much for all your suggestions. Minnie- I guess it is a transitional look! I had to google it to find out what that was. Ha! ED- I will definitely be adding more colour into the room, just wanting to complete the main bit of furniture. I have moved the sofas forward a few inches as previously suggested and it definitely looks better. Carolina- thankyou for the link to the website. Hoping to complete the room over the next few months. Will update you all when it’s complete. Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions...See MorePaint colour advice for period cottage holiday home
Comments (13)Just personal opinion but I think I'd put a shaker kitchen in a period cottage. If it's set in stone I'd soften it with wooden shelves, chopping boards etc. If you like the red based neutrals then I might look at adding some brown red (excuse the picture!) in the kitchen for either patterned tiles or a patterned wallpaper on one wall which would bring the cottage feel and character back (you can protect wallpaper with polyvine dead flat varnish). Not a colour expert at all but if you weren't set on the red tones then maybe an olive green or dirty ochre would work with the black and white?...See MoreLucy Willmott
