Looks like hydrangea petiolaris, the climbing hydrangea ( there are other climbing hydrangeas but petiolaris is the most common). Is it a young one? It takes some time to get going so it might be two years or more before it even starts trying to cling to the wall. It will probably try going out across the soil first, then suddenly it will realise what it’s supposed to do and then there'll be no stopping it so long as it's in the right position. Does it have enough shade? Unless you’re quite far north, if in UK, it won’t like too much sun so not a south or south west facing wall. A north wall is good. Also your wall is painted. Sometimes that makes it more tricky for a clinging climber to grip, particularly if there are mould inhibitors or similar in the paint!

It is definitely Hydrangea anomala petiolaris in that picture, we planted it. It thrives on a north-facing wall but will grow almost anywhere that's not too exposed. Hello Ann, Sounds like an exciting project! What about approaching the layout the other way around.. If you had for example a double or 3 seater sofa roughly where the 2 green chairs are... Then situate the 2 chairs opposite this...Keeping all windows free... This opens up the area nicely and does not create a cave effect.. If you decorate seamlessly, again you should not really notice the differing heights... Have a large pendant over the dining table and another along same plane roughly where the living room area starts.. ie in front of the current green chairs.. Have a console table behind the suggested sofa placement which ends no further forward that current chair placement.. Vase of flowers or something.. Then you can walk round this into the room.. chairs and coffee table can angle round and low lamps and a floor lamp would be good to illuminate this portion where the ceiling is lower.. Perhaps consider the tv on the other corner away from the fireplace.. It could sit on a nice cabinet in the corner between the window /sliding door.. : ))

Hi. What kind of budget do you have? Do you have any furniture at all or a carpet? I think if you're going for a dark scheme it does tend to automatically look expensive which helps. I'd get yourself on eBay. Have only had a quick look but you can pick up a french bed cheaply (you can buy a divan base in ikea) and I'd match with marble top cabinets. The bed can be painted if need be. I might look at second hand or antique shops for a chair that you can re-cover yourself. eBay is also good for cushions in designer/high street fabrics if you plough through. Maybe try TK Max for bedding, lights etc. Sainsbury's sometime do some good accessories too. The laundry lobby and the bedroom lobby are not very efficient uses of space, unless you want the extra separation of the bedrooms from the living space. Personally I would combine the laundry with the second bathroom. Then you should be able to make the sitting area of your new open plan room bigger as you can add on most of the space currently given to the second bathroom and bedroom lobby. If the sitting area becomes bigger, then perhaps you do not need a separate sitting room and can make it a third bedroom (or at least, this could be presented as an option if you come to sell).

If space is your priority, perhaps the second toilet would be better? What brand is it, btw? I will eventually be redoing a bathroom (had planned to do it this year, but gas price rises have made me decide to install a wood burner instead). Really like the shape of this second toilet and it looks like it would be so easy to clean.
