What would you suggest for a contemporary light fitting for the hall and landing? Thee color on the walls are dove grey and white ceilings

We have the same type of panelling in our hall and it was oak the same as yours with an oak floor. It just started to feel quite dark and drab but we hesitated to to do anything for fear of messing it up. In the end we painted all the panelling in Farrows French grey, left the doors and floors wood and painted the sides of our staircase and the spindles in Farrows clunch but left the newel posts and the bannister rail as wood - looks like a different hallway - I have never regretted painting it

Dear Swainsonprice, Are you able to measure the ceiling height in your hallway and on your landing? I'd aim for 2m to the underside of any light to avoid any head-banging. What sort of style do you like - contemporary, minimal, industrial, modern etc?

Jonothanb1972 .... Wow how gorgeous is that!!! I also thought about having a feature colour on that bottom wall, but thought I would leave it until I decide what colour to do our lounge - which opens off that bottom door. It looks great light & bright though! Their floor has brighter tones to pick from though too! I haven't really had chance to look through the comments re damp roofing ...it may be too late as it's starting next week! Our house is a 1923 semi... We've been here a year now & I adore it, however we need to decorate the whole house and are on a very tight budget .... I just don't want to ruin it!

Paint colour suggestions for hallway, stairs and landing

Hiya, we have a Victorian hallway and it is done very similar to Rukmini’s first image. We have a greeny grey under the dado (including the skirting and dado itself) and on the doors and architraves. It’s Blanket by Paint & Paper library which is a little darker than Rukmini’s pic. Then an off white above the dado and on the ceiling. It used to be off white all over and the grey definitely has made it darker. On the other hand it also feels smarter and shows the marks less! Swings and roundabouts. I wouldn’t have three colours, I would pick one colour plus off white above the dado/picture rail (Pointing seems sensible!!) Your tiles look browny grey so would suggest looking at Ammonite by F&B and its family of colours - (Cornforth White, Purbeck Stone). See below for the F&B families of greys. If you want bluey or greeny greys then Paint & Paper Library are a good source but be careful to see if they will go with your tiles.
