Ground floor renovation dilemma (extension vs conservatory)
Comments (7)Hi Navneet! Conservatories have very short useful times during the year. In the summer they tend to be way too hot and in the winter way too cold. So that's one thing worth deciding - is it comfortable enough to keep because you can use it for a lot of the year, or is it unused for a lot of the year. Some more questions for you, that I hope will help you define what you want: - is the conservatory blocking light into the kitchen? If so does this bother you? - Is the view of the garden more limited with the conservatory or do you enjoy the garden more from the conservatory? - Where would you have your dining table if not in the conservatory - the kitchen? Would this be big enough for you and for any entertaining you do - is the conservatory big enough for this now? Ask your local estate agent (perhaps the ones you bought through) about the impact on resale value for removing the conservatory. You should be able to replace the kitchen and bathroom for your budget. Depending on what materials, etc you choose. You could easily spend that £30k on just the kitchen if you wanted to! But equally you can cover a decent amount of redecoration and new fittings in that budget. I recommend that you keep a spreadhsheet to keep it on track. Hope this helps. Don’t demolish the workshop. Instead you should be exploring turning the workshop into a new kitchen. I would make the hallway longer by getting rid of the current kitchen, I would add a tiny extension to link the main house to the workshop. I would add deep windows and a roof lantern to the workshop and then render as it doesn’t match the house brick. Building an extension this large would cost thousands so I urge you not to demolish it but instead make it work better for you and make it better looking....See MoreHouse renovation - windows help needed
Comments (6)I agree about sticking to the white window frames, especially with the green & grey. Could be way too much going on if not careful. I like the windows in Sonia’s picture, they suit the era of the house and the equal sightlines are pleasing to the eye. There’s a row of cottages on my road that have pebbledash on the upper half. When we moved here none of them had painted it but then someone took the lead when renovating years ago and then every single one gradually followed suit....See Morelooking for renovation/floor plan ideas
Comments (6)Thank you @Jonathan @Devy brilliant plan. On a second thought I did not factor in the fact if we communicated the garage and the house we wouldn’t have access from outside to the back. So perhaps not the best move. And maybe to connect them the garage has to come down. 🥹. However like Jonathan has suggested may add value overall to the house. One thing I forgot to add is a bigger kitchen is needed as well and possibly a playroom/study. Also perhaps the garage can go as not fit for purpose. Any suggestions for plans to increase downstairs living space and hopefully get an en-suite upstairs?...See Morejesuit_turbo
