What colour to paint the shed?

Hi all, I’ve just moved and am working on the garden. Have painted the fence black and need a colour/colours for the large shed (currently undercoated as it was Blue before!), to tie in with the wall on the left and the corner seating (also undercoated).
I like the modern stone/grey colours but don’t want it to feel cold.
Any ideas please.

What about Cuprinol Muted Clay? It seems to have that lovely soft country look which will go nicely with your wall and planting. I’ve never used it, but here are some images of things painted in it, including a shed.

Thanks, I’ve painted the benches in Cuprinol Natural stone but it’s too browny on the corner seating (Zoom in), so May try a tester of muted clay. 👍

I think the door of the shed attracts the eye much less than the walls of the shed. And the door is darker. I’m just pointing that out because I’ve painted a few fences, pergolas and sheds in my time and the first few times I tried light and out of desperation then went dark and have worked out dark recedes. Plus, rough wood is hard to paint and shows that it’s rough much more obviously than dark. But if you husband is a decorator I bet he can do a great job whatever you pick. :)

I think you already have a lot of grey. Definitely paint the shed though. As MATH says use Cuprinol Ducksback. Both me and my son have used it on our fencing and it really is fabulous easy to use stuff. Needs a minimum of 2 coats and is currently on offer at several shops. First coat takes longer to put on, then the second coat goes on really quickly. I think I’d be tempted to use black for the fence and a contrast on the shed. I have my side fences Silver Copse (grey) and the back fences Iris (dark blue).

Hi all, thank you so much for such fabulous suggestions. I love all of these ideas...now just to pick one! Good to know about sad in superficial thanks tamp75 as I hadn’t come across this before. I do love green so I am drawn to the idea of old English green or wild thyme as suggested by Sonia. I also love the pale grey Warm Stone that tamp75 suggested as I have lots of these type of shades inside - I think our builder described that look which I think is quite popular at the moment as ‘50 shades of grey’! (I did say I was into neutrals!). I also love the silver copse or urban slate, especially as I had thought about that kind of colour originally but was worried the garden was too small for it, I also love how the green of plants would pop against that. I certainly love your idea of trellis across the front Mark and I will definitely be doing this. Colour happy I love your idea for the pale orange rose and I would never have thought of this on my own. I have a yellow rose and white clematis on the fence by the bifolds (yet to flower as this is their first year) so I think a pale orange rose would be a lovely addition

Hi Jeffrey. Welcome to Houzz! We are all a friendly bunch in the advice threads ( most of the time !) ... the things that some people find irritating is meaningless posts that aren’t relevant to the original posters problem ie Q what colour should I paint my shed A we sell lovely radiators like these ten images ... not checking the date of a post before you reactivate it by posting on it ! (Saw one the other day from 2013 !!) but in the whole we try and help as many people as we can and have fun along the way !

The dark pink colour seen in the plants to the right. Would make it stand out less and make your corner seat more of a focal point

That’s a big shed. I painted my ( smaller) shed black to match my fence and I.m very happy with it. I painted the inside in muted clay. I think there is another problem with the path that seems to go no where just a wall of the shed. What else are you going to do with the garden?

Yes, I’ve a way to go yet! We’re working on the garden now, we’ve moved the path to the right side of the lawn so it now leads to the shed door! Extended the lawn and have all the base down for a good size patio on part of the upper level of the garden as that’s a lovely spot for evening sun.

Similar to the Cuprinol Muted Clay but without the browny-ness, I would suggest the Osmo Country Colours in Pebble Grey. The grey bit of the name is deceptive - it’s a lovely neutral colour that would look fab against the black and would tie in with your other features.
Only downside - it’s not cheap. However it’s probably the best quality shed paint that you can buy, and the preference of many professional shed and summerhouse companies.

We painted ours black to match the fence and it has virtually disappeared! Be brave :)

Another vote for black from me. Haven't got a shed but we've done the fence black and love how it looks. Somehow I think your brain just doesn't really register the thing - be that shed, fence, other structure - if it's black. With other planting going on and maybe a few pots scattered about I think overall you'll simply see the garden rather than the structures.

I think black might work too. You could also add trellis to the shed, or a section just in front of it to grow some climbing plants up to make it ‘disappear’ even more.
