Anyone gone for dark green bedroom and regretted it?

Hi all,
Will be redecorating our bedroom in a few months time and fancy going for dark green. We have really solid cherry wood bedside tables and double chest of drawers, so a few years ago when we had a built in wardrobe, we had the same colour (mdf) to go with it.
So my thoughts are rather than replacing the furniture and potentially trying to do something like have the wardrobe painted/sprayed (don’t even know if you can do that), maybe go for a nice deep green which would complement that wood colour. I’ve ordered a new bed (which is grey fabric), and will also be having white plantation shutters fitted to the front of the house, so just thinking of colours. The room is probably 13x12 ft something like that so not massive, feeling like going bold with the dark green and brass/copper accents but then wondering if I’ll regret it or not! Bedroom walls now are like dusky pink and damson. Thanks in advance!

Dear Claire, I'd choose wooden floors any day over carpeted floors as they're much more durable and give an airier feel, however if you end up agreeing with your husband on having the room carpeted I'd recommend a warm grey carpet like my design shows below: When it comes to a wooden floor a whitewashed look might look modern but could provide too harsh a contrast, instead I'd opt for a mid-tone warm grey or pale brown. It might look pretty on the pics but to live in such a white room for a long time, would be too white. Although one can vary it with coloured blankets or rugs.

Yes you’re right about that Love your home bed, the wings are deeper than our wardrobes (which are half recessed) so if we had little shelf bedsides they’d be really hard to reach, we‘d have to sit up and reach around the wings. If I’m honest I don’t think we can face doing anything too complicated like false wall or moving the sockets to allow for the full width headboard! New lights.... maybe... husband is predictably Not Keen. So, I think that boils it down to the naturalmat Prideaux bed, in linen 😁 with the bigger headboard size if they will do that. I’m up for painting that section of wall though - we could either use the mid grey green shown on the door, or a much darker grey green (the mid is Blanket and the dark is Squid Ink, both Paint & Paper library). If we use the mid paint then the bed colour would be dark and vice versa. Linen curtains - need to look at all my samples in the room later on today! Not heard of vinterior, I will have a browse. 😁 Yes I hope the cat is real!

It’s sounding lovely already!!! If you are on Instagram, there are over 18,000 photos under the hashtag greenbedroom, so definitely worth a look for ideas and current trends. I’ve posted a few below. I’ve also posted a couple of curtains from Anthropologie that are quirky and fun - but would maybe only suit rooms with tall ceilings!!!!

Sorry, but I’m a no for this. The saying is “red and green should never be seen”. I always remember my SIL having red and green in the same room. It was 🤮.

If you have dark green on the walls and white woodwork it will look stunning. Adding cherry into the equation will look awful (just my honest opinion here). Cherry is also a more dated colour. I would paint the wardrobes etc if you intend to keep them.

Haha you have made me think I’ve probably got the wood wrong. It’s not a red wood, it’s like a warm golden colour, will add couple of pics. Please ignore the wires and mess!

Not sure what this wood is. I don’t think it’s oak, I thought it was cherry

That is definitely not cherry. It’s probably a stained softwood. It is difficult to tell from an image.

A dark green with a lot of grey in it, like the one you posted with the diagonal strips, would work well with that wood. Something like Green Smoke Farrow & Ball. I would avoid anything too bright and emerald as IMO it wouldn’t have a calm enough feel for a bedroom. You’ll see all the inspo pictures have a lot of white or pale grey in them - white woodwork, lamps, bedlinen, flooring - to offset the dark walls and stop it all being too dark.

So it’s more a golden wood, probably a stained pine. Now I’m not sure about really dark bedrooms but they can look stunning. Here’s some images I found incorporating the dark walls and the golden wood, looks really nice!

Those images put a different light on my previous post. Now that they aren’t cherry red, the stained softwood looks fine with dark green. Cherry is a definite dark red and would not have looked right.

Thanks all. Won’t be decorating for a few months yet as we are having our loft done starting in Feb, just doing a bit of forward planning for once!
