Hello randjb, One thing that might be an idea is not to have the orange splashback wrapping around the hob unit and instead one sleek sheet... Painting the door and skirtings, architrave etc to blend with the walls is a good idea and also the rad... The eye then takes in the kitchen as a whole... Don't shy away from your selection... Celebrate it.. but stick to this one accent colour only.. Perhaps introduce some vintage glass centrepiece in orange for the dining table, something semi translucent... Could you make more of the pendant by adding more to this? Carry a bit more orange into the living area... The above centre piece and these lamp bases are Murano glass but something like these could be gr8! : ))

It looks great. Maybe introduce some more of the orange in accessories or artwork etc. Then it will become a strong accent colour and will tie everything together. Good luck

Another update - I managed to get it painted by the time hubby got home, but haven't put anything back yet. He was really chuffed. Thanks for all the suggestions and help so far. I decided to go with white. The grey colours just seemed to suck away the light when on the wall and I felt I either had to embrace the darkness or go whiteish. Decided to slow down and take my time choosing by chair and accessories, but will hopefully have another update once we've got stuff back in and bought some bits and bobs.Thinking of shades of green if there are any more suggestions. Also going to see if our local handyman / carpenter can quote for some shelves / doors to hide some of the clutter we will inevitably have to put back. Also hunting for a table lamp, magazine files / storage boxes, maybe some fake plants (no light!) and something to put the phone on or next to that will hide all those wires.

Hi Gillian What a beautiful room. If I were visiting you I would ask lots of questions but for this exercise here today I will give you my initial thoughts based on the information you've provided. If this is to be the TV room, i.e. the only room where you relax and enjoy TV then the TV has to be the focus. The room is very difficult with interruptions to the walls (doors, radiators and a window), and focal points (TV, fireplace, window), so I'm going to be radical in suggesting you change the fireplace so that you can have your TV above it. The mantelpiece as it stands is too high BUT if the fireplace were changed to a moden low level design (perhaps gas or bio-fuel) you could easily have the TV above it. I would then look to incorporate the doors into the decor by painting them to match the walls rather than have them stand out visually. When the TV is off the floor you will have more floor area to play with when it comes to choosing and laying out the furniture. Hope that helps. Best wishes Yasmin
