This was a great project to work on. We were the architectural team on the project and did a lot of the interior detailing, however the color scheme was specified by the owner's interior designer who is no longer practicing. We don't have a record of that color selection unfortunately.

Grey goes with everything, I love it! In my kitchen I have white cupboards with a green grey granite top and I've just jazzed it up with one of my prints at the back of one of the counters and some old brightly coloured Fortnum and Mason tins to give it some colour. Primary colours will keep it very modern so yellow, red or blue. However the wrong grey can sometimes be quite cold and as the kitchen is the hub of most homes you want it to feel cosy, so maybe the yellow/ red side of the spectrum would counteract that. Saying that though my print is of a peacock wearing emeralds and I don't think the space looks any colder for it. I would just say keep it bright and energetic (maybe a coloured splashback or tiles, or just get some pretty ornaments/ toasters/ scales to liven it up) , if the place looks cold and uninviting cooking won't be so much fun!

We have a very similar style of house and are also torn between playing it safe with white or light cream upvc windows to brighten the exterior or being a little more adventurous choosing grey. We are also having to replace all guttering, soffits and fascia ( we have 3 dormers to front and 3 at the back) so we are wondering about combining grey window frames, guttering and soffits with white fascias and white front door and white garage door. We are also supposed to decide by tomorrow but I am worried that getting it wrong will be a massive disappointment every time arrive home! i wish there was some way to "photoshop" the options onto an image of our house. Sorry not to offer any constructive advice but I found it reassuring to find another house owner struggling with a decision just like me!

Yes you can use gray!!! Pick a gray that has a warm, beige undertone, like sand... It will go with cream, it will make your room look warm, and it is gray. Gray is the new neutral. What you need is really good lighting. Meaning, I would have to see a pick, but maybe a floor lamp, a table lamp, etc... It will make the space look, oh, so warm and delicious. Lamp shades should be light cream, possible some beads around, make it fun and give it some movement, to help with the dark space. Get a nice rug, neutral colors, simple design, lots or curves in the design, to warm it up. No angles, that will make it cold. Remember - "dark" for a living room is not so bad. Dark makes one relax and slow down - well, that's what a living room is for. :-)
