Can I build a house from straw?

I have a choice, brick, wood or straw? what would you suggest?

It sounds like you've got a few great ideas covered already :) Maybe also look at the materials used ie lime plaster, hardwood, chalky paint finishes etc. Choose door furniture, lights and sockets that are appropriate. Would beams suit the style of architecture? Look at deep doors rather than modern ones. I think the interior style will also be important to add character, lots of rugs, art, books etc, maybe mix in a few antiques with new furniture. Lots of texture for cushions, throws etc with traditional window dressings and choose the colour palette based on the scenery? A traditional shaker style kitchen with a natural stone worktop, butlers sink etc . What are the style of windows? Sounds like a fantastic house btw :)

Hi guys, Yes party wall agreement was costly and next door are very particular about things... It was mainly asked as party wall agrees to build up by three bricks layers, but gov.uk states 1m clearance from flat roof to top of pot, even though next door want a smoke test after which would clearly violate building regs. Just wanted to check if I missed something. Have also been really enjoying getting hands on with this as local builders have left neighbours with leaks and party wall violations, which have cost them thousands to fix...

Although straw may have a cheaper acquisition cost you need to balance that against the extra Labour cost for building. Furthermore it’s unlikely mortgage companies will lend on construction they perceive to be non standard so that could cause problems for you or the next buyer
