Mixing brass handles with chrome taps in bathroom?

Hi. We are having a lovely deep green vanity unit in our bathroom with two sinks on top. The vanity looks gorgeous with brass handles but will this go with chrome taps, shower, towel rail etc? I can’t think where I can tie in some additional brass as we are having an LED mirrored cabinet above the sinks and as the ceilings are relatively low we can’t have any exciting brass light fittings. I could go for chrome handles on the vanity but I don’t think they will look as good as the brass! I did consider going for brass taps etc but I think it is too much with the towel rail etc in that colour. Also the taps I love only come in chrome! Please help!

Hello!

Sounds gorgeous! In short, the answer is yes. You absolutely can mix metals in a bathroom like that.

By using the two you will create depth and add interest to the room. In fact, I think it actually creates a much more pleasing design that just using a single metal for every finish (this can look little flat!)

So I would say, go for it - sounds like a beautiful bathroom.

Thank you! Yes I didn’t like the visuals of everything in brass as it did look flat. So you think it is ok to just have brass in the handles and nowhere else in the room?

The colour of your vanity definitely matters. Your eye needs to be able to settle on something in a darker colour in the room and if your vanity is also white then the metal taps, rails or handles will be the "grounding" factor. [houzz=] [houzz=]

Thank you guys for your helpful advice and comments. Chloe yes I love wall mounted taps too, we are definitely getting wall mounted for bath but I don’t think we can for basin as it’s an external wall so unless a plumber can do something very clever we’d probably have to put some extra studwork in there which would reduce the width of the room which we can’t do unless we made the shower smaller than a 900x900 quadrant which we also don’t want to do! I love the crosswater brushed brass taps, but I can’t seem to find a tall basin mixer tap version of the range, and we need a tall mixer tap as we’d love a countertop basin. It’s so frustrating when the companies don’t do all the different types of tap for that range, some of them I find don’t do showerhead versions either so you can’t match it all up!

It's not so much who makes them, but how they're made that matters. Don't buy anything other than quarter turn taps. These are a newer design and cut out the old fashioned washer approach. I'd look on Trust Pilot at the company selling them and see what others have said. I have recently had a year long battle with Franke after purchasing a very expensive sink, which is not fit for purpose. A lot of the companies these days hide behind the 'guaranteed against manufacturing defects for 5 years' etc..............however, this means that if you can't prove it was made incorrectly in the first place, then you'll have to bin it and start again. I would encourage you to read very carefully their small print. Had I looked on Trust Pilot and seen how bad the reviews were for Franke, I would have never purchased it. Same for Bensons for Beds ( another tail ). I can however recommend Burlington, their customer service has been excellent!

Guys i cant thank you enough for all of your feedback! If this helps explain the layout at all and impacts any feedback i've attached the mock up of our kitchen - Cabinets Skimming Stone / Studio green and walls a similar light colour like skimming stone. Worktop will be Quartz, a light one with a faint marbling. Kitchen is going for a similar vibe to this/below Taps/handles will be brushed brass - and we will have elements of black as cant escape parts of oven looking black, the induction hob, the face of the wine fridge. so perhaps we could go for a dark grey fridge rather than black, and maybe ovens with minimal brushed steel elements but it could tie in with fridge and hob. We did try to look at integrated FF but it just took up too much room when we played around with it.

If you can incorporate an accessory or two with a similar brass finish to the handles I think that would be ideal. If chrome is your dominant metal then its fine to have just the hardware on your vanity, but by repeating the brass somewhere else in the room - this would look more purposeful. I'm thinking a brass and glass soap dispenser - check out www.designvintage.com or maybe a slimline brass shelf for plants/candles? www.coxandcox.com do I nice one :)
