These cabinets were custom made and shop painted with a matt finish. Thank you for admisring our kitchen - it was completed well over a dozen years ago! The countertops are Corian and the floor is cork. Best wishes, Colleen

I just wanted to share my experience because I am on a non existent budget too. I saw a picture of a bench I loved, contacted the carpenter, and he has just made me a birch ply kitchen for a total of 1600 euros, including fitting. (600 labour, 400 fitting, 600 for materials). He has kept his price low for me because he likes the project. I am guaranteed to use him now to build wardrobes, boxes, and shelving solutions as and when I have budget. Sometimes talking to individuals who work for themselves/do it on the side can result in very cost-effective solutions! I am paying 300 euros for brushed stainless steel countertops, and got a belfast sink for 100 euro including the mixer tap. Will send u a pic when it's done but my almost dream kitchen has been possible for like 2000 euros (£1800?) I wouldn't shy away from painting the units yourself as there are many tutorials online to show you how, but it is labour-intensive and eggshell paint on cabinets = drips!! You could always just get white or raw cabinets for now, and paint later when you have some cash? Make sure you use quality brushes if you go this route. Nothing more annoying than little hairs sticking in your lovely paint :-/

I don't envisage the taps being more than two tiles width at most above the sink so I'm hoping it'll be ok splash-wise. I'm having a glass panel fitted to the top of the console too. The wide sink idea is purely taste, I just don't think I like square or round but oval is still an option. I'm thinking mini-Butler style or trough. Hadn't really thought about water pressure. A few more pic ideas attached to peruse. I'm beginning to wish I just wanted a bland white suite now!!!

Hi Ocean Home Designs, There are many pro's and cons when installing a floor prior or after the kitchen. An advantage with fitting prior would be it makes life easier to fit a kitchen on top off, as the levels would be a lot easier to work from. Another benefit would be, the flooring will be easier/quicker to install with no kitchen obstructions to go around. On the other hand, some would rather not waste material by going under the units as the floor would just be covered over and never seen again, hence making a saving in material & fitting costs.

That photo does look good, the two don't clash at all. I can't afford real wood flooring. I will either be having new laminate or engineered wood flooring, neither of which are something I would want in a kitchen. I also don't feel comfortable having something I feel would be more difficult to clean than tiles. It's a kitchen diner which opens onto our unusually wet and muddy garden. I have two children who create lots of mess. Just yesterday my eldest spilled some sort of hideous red goo all over the cream carpet upstairs! My other option is some sort of blue geometric patterned tiled floor. I haven't been able to find many affordable options so would probably only be able to do half of the room, depending on the way it is designed. Do any more affordable options exist? I found the optiks tiles at topps tiles which are just under £70 a square metre, so still too expensive for me. They are also quite a light blue and I'd prefer something darker. Are there any other options around?
