Advice needed : kitchen cabinet update / painting cabinets
Comments (8)Hi, I have just finished repainting my kitchen myself. Overall I am happy with the new look, but I think the final verdict is only possible after some time (to see if the paint hardens enough). I have used Ammonite Farrow and Ball which is very warm grey colour. It looks nice in dark corners as well. Had to apply 4 coats of paint after 3 coats of FB primer. So be aware of the quantities. I must say that the process of repainting was not an easy ride. I spent overall three weeks (full time weekends and doing some smaller works in the evenings). Preparation is the hardest part (sanding, sanding and sanding), while painting is also a vey delicate process). If you are not afraid of hard work do it yourself! Otherwise, a professional is always a good option. Check traditionalpainter.com website they have a number of good instructions on repainting the cabinets....See MoreWhat colour to repaint?
Comments (13)What worries me is the fact that you are talking about damp proofing.......in a very high percentage of cases, damp proofing is totally pointless. Lack of ventilation/broken downpipes/painted bricks/no gaps around the base of the house......these are a few of things that stop the house 'breathing'. If you haven't already, please look into it further otherwise you could just be chucking thousands of pounds away. Oh and in my opinion you shouldn't use mizzle it's way too green for that space. I agree with using the light and bright paint....it worked for me in a dark Victorian stairwell....See MoreFarrow and Ball Paint Dilemma
Comments (10)Hello Harriet, Yes I suggest this method of painting at half height, without the addition of beading in the form of dado a lot. I love this and, if you don't have it, you don't need it.. With regards to the height you need to go, it depends on the height of the ceiling in the space considered. So it could be dado height which is roughly the top of the back of a chair but could easily be much higher depending on my next point that compliments Minnie's.. Also depends on whether you want to do the same for picture rail or lack thereof... So you could actually use 3 colours and the top where picture rail would go take this colour up to and over the ceiling.. So there's choice between how many colours.. I also like to include all the woodwork and so again there's a variety of ways.. The same or a shade or two lighter or darker than wall colour.. Take into account the flooring and size of the space as this too will help you decide what and how much.. If you want less contrast work with shades of the same palette, that way you achieve a look with less contrast which you may find easier to deal with.. You can also use the same with the idea of skirting or lack thereof... Pictured.. It's a dark interior but you can see the principle can be applied in a variety of ways.. : ))...See Moreshaded white advice
Comments (20)I’ve decided to stick with slaked lime deep as it offers a good contrast with all the white I have in the room. Even though its a north facing room , it’s bright in the afternoon and the shaded white looked too sickly against the white gloss cabinets especially in the morning light. the slaked lime deep doesn’t change colour throughout the day much while the Farrow and ball colours were way too changeable....See Morebunnybuns_48
