How many recessed LED light should I install in our small bathroom

Hello fellow Houzzers,

Hopefully someone can provide advice on lighting scheme appropriate for a small bathroom. I am currently renovating our small bathroom and would like to get help with how to layout the LED recessed lights, which lumens of brightness I would need per bulb.

The area of the bathroom is approximately (from bathroom entrance perspective)

  • Length = 2.7 metres
  • Width = 1.7 metres
  • Which is 4.76 sq. metres or 49.84 sq. feet

Ceiling Height is approximately 2.8 metres

Wall will be tiled up to the ceiling using Alaska Grey

The floor will be tiled up with Seed Grey tiles

Both tiles have a matte texture/finish and would not reflect or bounce off much light.

From what I have been reading on the internet, Bathrooms would need 70 to 80 lumens per square foot which is we use this and multiply it with the square footage of my bathroom (@70 lumens per sq. ft), it would mean that I would need 3489 lumens to effectively light my bathroom. I would then need 6 Recessed LED bulbs, and each would need to be able to pump out 600 lumens.

I would like to spread out the lumens to general lighting by the recessed lights as well as to the mirror side wall lights.

I hope to read your valuable suggestions and ideas. Many thanks in advance.
