Cutlery trays/drawer dividers

Hello,

The blum ambia line cutlery trays/dividers look lovely, but extremely pricey! Has anyone found an alternative, that looks pretty slick, but a bit cheaper? Photos of your kitchens would be great!

The ambia line is for the legra drawer boxes, which is quite new to the UK market and is a more expensive drawer than the standard blum antaro tandem box drawer, my carcase manufacturer has advised me in the past that their standard cutlery tray also suits the legra box, so I have cheaper cutlery trays that are in anthracite and 423 and 473mm deep and the width is 86mm less than the cabinet ie to suit a 900 wide drawer the cutlery tray is 814mm and they come with dust strips. They also have a knife block and spice jar inserts.

But for all the other elemants than I think you may need to stick to the ambia line but depends on what you are after, also worthwhile shopping around as on line suppliers may be cheaper than a showroom price.

To me a cutlery tray is just somethng that keeps cutlery in a specific place and is then hidden so I wouldn’t pay a fortune for them.

When our customers order kitchens from us we provide them with a free cutlery tray regardless of the size, so they go from 300mm to 1200mm. They are Blum standard range.

Hey, I came across your old thread and wanted to share my 2 cents to revive it. How's it going? Have you thought about using bamboo drawer organizers instead? They're a lot cheaper and still look pretty slick. Plus, they're good for the environment, so you can feel good about your purchase. I don't have any pics of my kitchen, but trust me, these things will make your drawers look like they belong in a magazine. LMK what you think about it.

A place for everything and everything in its place. A good kitchen designer will take account of who uses the kitchen and how they use it. By having a well planned out kitchen, easy to use storage drawers & larders and storage accessories such as plate holders, dividers, cutlery trays etc all help to make the kitchen easier to use and keep tidy. Worktop features like roller shutters or worktop sliding doors also help hide the kettles, toasters, mixers - the stuff that usually clutters a kitchen. Paper towel, tinfoil & clingfilm holders all serve a useful purpose as well. We often find that many kitchen companies omit a lot of these essential accessories until after the kitchen contract is signed and then sell them as an add on. Also - remember - if you are messy then make sure you select materials that are easy to clean and tend not to stain. In worktops;quartz, corian and dekton are all great materials which are non porous so difficult to stain. For your door fronts - certainly high quality laminate is probably one of the most robust and cleaning friendly materials you can get as well as being the most price friendly. best of luck

I’m totally in the tray camp and would never go back to a basket. Everything sits independently, rather than bunched up, so it cleans better. Space-wise my DW also has an adjustable shelf beneath to accommodate for different sized glasses on the top rack / plates on the bottom rack. I love that I can put larger items in without having to Tetris them around the basket on the bottom rack. (...Also, it appeals to my OCD so I can line-up all the same size knives, forks etc so when it comes to emptying you just grab the whole bunch of the same items in one go to put away... no fiddling fishing different items out or risking cutting fingertips on knives :-) )

Reading all of this, and in particular redrawing the plans, I am beginning to feel maybe I am guilty of misleading with respect to what goes where. Probably by labeling with the names given by the kitchen supplier. It didn’t seem to matter when I was concerned about rows of units creating a corridor. On my original plan the island unit was shown with six pan drawers, three of them will probably be used for food storage; for things like rice, the three types of flour, the four types of sugar and the pasta that we use regularly. Also things like tinned foods and probably breakfast cereal, tea and coffee. The larder on the other hand will likely be used for storing things like multi-packs of tins and the large packets of rice that get decanted to a container as needed instead of going out to by another small bag. So, looking at all this perhaps my original design does cover all the bases as far as the working triangle / functional areas goes. What does anyone think? Still wondering about that corridor though.

We went for drawers in our French home and find them so much more accessible than cupboards. Also, you never "lose" stuff at the back, like I do with cupboards. You can have drawers within drawers, to give a clean, uniform look of just two doors deep all round, whilst having the convenience of shallow drawers for smaller items. Plan carefully about what you want to store and where that needs to be relative to your oven, hob, sink, etc. The drawer sliders are very strong, so wide drawers are not a problem. Under the sink we have a deep drawer that holds waste bins, this is opened with a foot pedal! Genius when you have messy hands from cleaning and filleting fish! (or any other food prep) Don't bother with plate dividers in the drawers, the plates sit in stacks and do not move about. Dividers just waste your space. We kept a couple of cupboards for tall things such as cereal boxes. The attached photo is pre tiling & decorating and I don't have any showing drawer interiors. Sadly we will not be back there until late March. We love the drawers kitchen in France so much that we will be renewing our UK kitchen to all drawers soon.
