Victorian design tile step on a budget

Hello,

i have a 1m square storm porch which id like to tile with a victorian type patterned tile, however the cost is quite excessive for such a small space. does anybody have an ideas how the look could be achieved on a budget? would something like black and white quarry tiles get the same effect?

any idea for the best place to purchase, other than topps or ctd?

I’ve seen quite a few Victorian inspired sheet vinyl designs lately—could that work? Is it outside or inside? If the existing area is concrete you could always try stencilling it.

I think I would choose an inexpensive tile that has a pattern that feels vintage.

Thanks everyone for your input. I’ve not been able to figure out if I can respond directly to specific comments. Yes, I agree that the neighbour’s fan is out of proportion (too reduced in size) and so they do look odd next to each other. I highly doubt that the original tiles are anywhere to be found - we would need to reinstate these. Thank you for the kind offer to see what your neighbours have done. At this point I think it’s a case of getting a quote and taking it from there. Depending on the cost it may be hard to justify given it’s purely aesthetical - probably the reason that I can’t find any examples!

Absolutely ED. If you are okay with a slightly smaller living space then I would definitely keep the walls where they are as that will help the budget. However... points to consider would be things like how much use the second bedroom would get vs the living space, e.g. if the second bedroom is going to be an occasional guest room and the living space is going to be used everyday would you be happy to loose that space to a room that would rarely get used? If on the other hand the bedroom will be used by a lodger or family member then sharing the space out a bit would make more sense etc. The design, as I mentioned, is quite flexible in that regard. Regarding the extra space under the stairs, You could, depending on head height give that to the bathroom. I think there would be enough space to get the entire bathtub under the stairs in which case you could claw back 1 meter for the kitchen area, which would be quite significant. alternatively you could put a hole through the bedroom wall and give that space to the 2nd bedroom as a built in closet.

Maybe a porcelain tile which mimics a Victorian patterned tile as Jonathan suggests? I found these at Mandarin Stone.
