Internal blinds in doors- any good ?

Has anyone invested in internal blinds in large doors, either sliders or bi-folds? Have they stood the test of time? Or has anyone found a better alternative? We are South facing so will need something for those heatwaves and strong glare days but wondered if those internal blinds could go wrong/ get jammed inside? We could go for solar glass but would prefer to use the heat in the winter to gain warmth- especially with the current bill hike and also better for the environment.

Yes we have integrated blinds in our extension (bifolds & windows). No issues…touch wood!

We put integral blinds in our bifolds which are 1.2m wide. What we have found is that because the doors are wide, the blinds are heavy to pull up - we have the type with the string at the side. As a result one of our mechanisms broke and had to be replaced. So maybe consider the size of the doors and the mechanism you opt for.

Hello. Those doors are beautiful and do not need glass that will block your view and compete for attention. My suggestion is to have clear glass. If you can find old style antiqued glass, or handmade glass that would be my vote. Otherwise just use plain glass. The key is the view through the doors (both ways). The doors will function as a frame so arrange furniture accordingly. I suggest new long curtains that hang closer to the ceiling. A beautiful neutral linen, or something that excites you. If you hang a vibrant or patterned curtain then your black sofa (is it a chair?) will not dominate the view through the doors. If you elect for a neutral curtain, then you may want to relocate the black sofa in favour of a more neutral piece. Beautiful home, what we can see of it. Good luck!

Hi S, Regarding the blinds, we would recommend having matching blinds for the french doors and the window. You might like to consider having sunscreen roller blinds as they provide some privacy and shading without blocking all the light. Here are some examples of sunscreen blinds we have installed. Thanks for all comments. I like PWJ architects idea, but think our space would not do that door justice. I love the bi-fold acoustic fabric panel and will investigate that further. I do want to replace the door with something as an add on porch, no matter how well insulated, will always allow a cold or hot bank of air coming into the hall.

The room is looking good. personally i would break up the solid yellow on that back wall with a patterned oblong cushion. I’d also add a slim vase of stems on the table and something smallish in the bowl to layer the height etc (try the bowl off centre). I’d also add a tasselled wool etc throw over the arm of the sofa in the forefront to add texture. Assuming the tv fits (as the shelf needs to be wider), I’d go for a slightly shorter unit than you currently have as it looks too close to the door and side table. You could add art over the side table, something a bit more than half the height of the mirror although I might get the shelf first. I’d also add art in the alcove. Again personal opinion but I might continue the blue on each wall to disguise the tv
