Help wanted!
We are planning an extension and we are trying to get a few kitchen designs going. We have 2 designs already, which do you prefer, how would you improve them?

The room measurements are as is on the drawing, including the bifolds on wall C and half of wall D.

Open to any amendments as its really early stages.

Thanks so much for your help on this guys. We are looking forward to seeing your suggestions!

Be cautious of Wren. Check out their Facebook page and also the Wren Kitchen Disasters page. So many current problems. Remember they are sales people not fully trained trained designers. Their interest free is added into the price equivalent to the same or similar rate you would get if you took out your own loan. I hate seeing people being ripped off.

However looking at your plan I would opt for the second plan. It’s much more open and provides more worktop area. I can’t see what units are on the sink run because of the angle of the image or what is in the corner situation. Are the drawers 600mm or 800mm wide? Try to aim for 800mm as it’s a great size with ample storage for pans.

Hi Fiona,

From an aesthetic point of view the first design is better - however, i think it depends on how much storage and bench space you are after. The second does provide much more bench space, but looks almost unfinished without overhead cupboards. I would also look at possibly integrating the microwave as well so you dont have it taking up bench space.

Something along these lines could work - and give you better room between range and island and allow the fridge freezer to be opened fully ... extra cabinets in the dining room provide additional storage if required... I’ve added images into a shared folder with public access for you. Hope it helps ! Hi Emily, A few initial thoughts: - A more slimline to the wall radiator change - It would be advisable to brick up the wall on the appliances side, because lots of beautiful natural light already emanates from the window on the opposite side (most galley kitchens are not so lucky) - Some wall art on the wall side with the radiator, canvas might be a letter option, as frames might dominate this wall instead of keeping it clear (or white frames to keep clean lines) - I am unable to see the cabinet handles very clearly - but handles are a really inexpensive way to transform furniture and cabinet and to modernise a space. - Shelving would be the most obvious fit in a galley kitchen, but this would depend if you plan on changing the cabinet sizes as per Isla's post. - Wall lighting or symmetry ceiling lighting in a galley kitchen to create a focal point and provide extra light - Opt for a lighter coloured back door to take the focal point to the main wall OR you could change the back door design to replace the light lost from 'bricking up' the glazed window! (see image) - Introducing glossy tiles is a great way to add a reflective surface to create the illusion of a bigger space :) - Consider also a slimline cooker hood (less dominating) see picture Ps: great flooring you already own :))

I think it would be better to put the tall cupboards in the darkest area of the room (on the wall facing the garden doors).

Very much personal opinion but i prefer the aesthetic of the 2nd design. i also think the space between sink and hob is too small in design 1 with no room for appliances.

However I prefer a homely kitchen so would

swap the wall unit for shelves in the unit colour

swap the extractor for something that complements the cabinets and blend in (although you could also do it in the cabinet colour)

add wall lights over the sink area to give some balance with the tall units or a combination of art and lights

incorporate the microwave within the island cooking side
