Living/kitchen area lighting design? High ceilings, small space.

Hi there,
I have just bought a small flat in a large converted victorian property. The living/kitchen area is small and I need lighting ideas please. The ceiling is 3m high.
At present I am thinking of putting three ceiling spotlights in the kitchen and 2 hanging pendants above the two stools on the peninsular.
It is the living area lighting design that I am unsure of. Essentially it is a long rectangle, around 4x2m.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Thank you!
