Kitchens Design Dilemma

help! kitchen cabinets and hood style

I need help deciding on upper cabinets. They will go to the ceiling but should I do a small box or one continuous cabinet? I’ll attach inspiration photos and our proposed kitchen design.
Hood, I have just a simple box but not sure if I should add some shape, have it curve in from the front or sides, cover it in tile?

It's really a personal preference on style but I have found the small box adds some interest to the design and breaks up the look of one solid door.

The hood is the same story, really personal preference on style. The first picture you provided with the wood-painted hood with the panel sloped back is preferable. My opinion is that the box looks heavy and needs a tall ceiling in a larger kitchen.

If you've got the time and the inclination (and budgets are tight) I reckon it's worth giving the paint a go to see how it looks. Lots of the kitchens we're doing for clients now are ones with painted finishes and although (as mentioned above) this isn't the most classic style/a bit old fashioned it will look completely different painted. New handles... save up for the kitchen you really want!

Hi Evie. I would actually keep the wall colour as close to the units as possible or even the same to make the space feel bigger. I'd look at strong white for the walls or perhaps purbeck for the units and ammonite on the walls. I'd get some testers anyway as the colours obviously look different in different lights. I also think the colours tend to come out lighter on the doors so ideally would test a sample. For the floor, you could run planks horizontally but if you don't like that look then opt for wide planks as per the 2nd pic. Encaustic tiles also look good in a narrow space. The last pic is a concrete tile from rockett st George but you could consider adding colour for tiles rather than accessories as there are lots of similar tiles around ATM

Hi, We are finally renovating our kitchen and would like some advice about installing 2 different types of kitchen worktops: granite and wood. We have a smallish J-shaped kitchen and with a separate laundry room which houses the fridge/freezer and washing machine. The style is classical/country cabinet doors in cream/mushroom colour and neutral walls. We have Moroccan style tiles which we installed when we first moved in to brighten up the kitchen, and we would like to retain these (picture included). For cost efficiency, we are considering brown or cream (can’t decide colour!) granite worktops across where the hob and sink will be situated and a dark wood across the 3rd worktop (sample plan attached). Most of the pictures of mix and match countertops on houzz/Pinterest etc seem to involve an island Or breakfast bar, neither of which we have enough space for. Thus would like your feedback on: Will differing worktops work or do they appear too disjointed in a smaller kitchen Advice on granite/quartz worktop colours that will work with the floor tiles. also any advice re: colour scheme for walls/splashback/cabinetry hardware/tiles would be appreciated. most of my kitchen toys ie food processor/kettle/toasrer are grey/black, and the hob/oven/microwave are likely to be grey/black so doesn’t really match with a traditional/country style kitchen! Having the extra height in the room will certainly be useful and it's definately something to maximize. Understanding your project now with your floorplan - using the under window space will be a bonus for you, so hope that is possible. The suggestions of other posters of shaker style with paint combination of light and dark will give you a long lasting classic look which will combine well into a simple living room combination. Lighter top units in your selected areas will help keep the room light while allowing you to maximize the room. With those wonderful windows it will be a stunning area for you as your main space.
