Brick matching and planning permission

Hi,
I have a semi-detached house and I'm planning a two story side extension with a single story rear extension. For the front of the house I'm planning on using a brick that matches the original brick, however for the gable end and rear extension I was planning on using another brick (perhaps engineering brick) to save on cost. The side will be blocked by my neighbour.
Is there a rule that would prevent me doing this from a planning perspective?
Thanks
