How to make stained wood work in this house?
Comments (3)Oh dear ! To face designing a whole house to work with orange wood that you don't like is a big no no in my opinion . Bite the Bullet and get a painter in ! Then you can have whatever look you want !! Or have a painting party !!! Either way - this orange wood will annoy you if you keep it !!!...See MoreHow to improve the front of this house? Comments (8)Rather than render, that can stain (my neighbour's new render keeps having to be redone as it's stained in the corners of the window and is now beginning to break up, despite being carried out by specialists), why not consider weatherboard cladding? It's cement, comes in a variety of colours, requires no maintenance and provides extra insulation. I used it on a first floor extension to my home and absolutely love it. I extended it out over the existing brickwork to tie in the whole of the back of the house. It's Marley Cedral Weatherboard Cladding in Forest Grey. Comments (11)I would (if the tile stripes line up) do the back wall that has the shower and the bath on it with the striped tiles, but put them in vertically. Since I'm not a huge fan of corner baths (they always look dated to me) and you have space for a free standing tub, I think, I'd go for something like this... But, if you go for the plan you have now, I still think that the back wall in the striped tiles will look modern and not overpowering if you keep the rest fairly plain....See Morehow would you fix this layout?
Comments (10)Hi, steal some of the kitchen (hall side) as a nice new (more spacious) bathroom. Don’t think it matters that it’s on the ground floor as it’s right at the bottom of the stairs. Use your old bathroom as 2nd wc or utility room and cupboard space (so convenient off the hall). Then you can enjoy clutter-free life in your new extension! Only down-side is that you’d have to pass through your living room space to get to your new kitchen/dining area. But good design of your new space should mean this isn’t a problem. Good luck, an exciting project!...See MoreJonathan
